Got a 3B H55 and now I'm wondering If I should have replaced the pistons. Compression great, the head removed fine, cam and crank play was good, so I put her back together after putting in a MLS head gasket for the turbo. Obviously there was a precup failure in that past? The #2 and 3 pistons show metal crunching. Should I have replaced those two pistons? Have it all back together and am wondering if I F'ed up by moving forward.

If the pistons had flaws, they probably would have failed by now. If you replaced the pistons, you might as well have done a full rebuild.

I like the sound of that. Thanks. She was running well.

Naughty corner for you, but it looks as if you will be OK. I assume the bores looked OK, and that the head with the new precups was inspected and found to be OK?
Tough little bastards these engins certainly are.
All the best and keep us informed from time to time.

But always remember you have less than perfect pistons in there. Sensible driving should see you safe.
