Yes I saw that. Still...

Howdy! I recognize that ad layout. I followed up on a really (too) cheap deal on a low mileage sedan a month ago. I got an email that told me where and how to send the money, and then she would ship the car from california. I emailed them back that I would be in their area in a couple of days to see the car, and that was the last I heard from them. DUH! I think this is the same outfit that sends out the emails about all the royal families of Africa that want you to hold their millions for them. Just open a joint account and deposit $10,000, and they will put in the multimillions they are hiding from their local government. I've made millions and millions this way!! John

Here is the gentleman's reply - SCAM:

Hello,

(if the above link does not work copy and paste it into a new web browser window)

The car has been well taken care of, always kept in the garage.Flawless exterior/interior condition,no scratches and no dents. It has never been involved in an accident. The engine starts and drives like new and the paint looks great. It comes with US clear title which will be signed and notorized in the buyer's name.Have original manuals and all keys.

I'm an US Air Force Sgt. currently stationed in United Kingdom. The car is here with me. It was bought in the US and shipped to Europe, but it was never permanently registered here, the car is still registered in the US.The car is for sale locally as well, but there are slim chances of this to happen. In order to be able to register this car here in UK the buyer would have to pay very high import/custom taxes that will double the price. So I decided to sell the car back in the US.

The final price is $4,995.00 including shipping from UK to the US and delivery to your home address.

So if you decide to buy this car or need further information please get back to me as soon as possible.

Thank you and have a great day
Sgt. Scott E Webber

i don't know, sounds legit to me. i mean, he is a sergeant.

Yeah. Especially when a current quote from england to the us is $7000.00 just for shipping to New york, not counting insurance, or truck freight once in the US.

i traded emails with one of these guys a while back. walked away cause seemed too sketchy. but the guy was saying it was a transaction through ebay motors. i have never bought a car online so i walked then, but have heard that it would have been insured through fleabay.

all that said.....and i still smelled scam.

It does smell fishy, but if he has enough rank and time in service, he can ship for free, complements of your tax dollars supporting the military. I brought a brand new 1972 Datsun 240Z back from Taiwan and the USAF paid the bill. John

Wait around, this yahoo posts ads like this all the time. I heard the same story on a cherry FJ40 a while back. The best one was a CL ad from Ohio. I figured I'd have my dad (lives in OH) go check it out. The guy replied the 100 was in...Phoenix and that he would ship it to Ohio. Never heard back when I told him I lived in Phoenix.

Listen to your spider-sense - if its tingling, heed it. Its amazing the effort and creativity especially in this challenging economy that scammers will come up with.

There should be tougher laws for on line fraud like these guys. I know enforcement is a challenge though - esp when law enforcement budgets are being cut.
