Thinking of Trading my LC for another LC...

I have a dark grey interior, but I've been amazed what a difference *dark tinted windows* has had on preventing interior heat.

Even with 109-111 degree heat in direct sunlight, the interior surfaces stay so much cooler without direct sunlight blasting them.

Yeah, I'm sure that is true. I haven't investigated aftermarket tints. We have some legal restrictions here in MA concerning the darkness of tints on the driver's and passenger's windows.

My front row is lighter as Kalifornistan has rules too, but with the entire back end dark and a tinted windshield, it's an amazing difference.

I was alway sort of opposed to tinting partly because I've seen such horribly done ones...with bubbles, peeling, etc. But the tint job I had done on mine turned out pretty amazing. It literally looks like the glass came dark because the install is so clean. I don't know how they did it, but even on the roll-up windows--on close inspection, you still can't see an edge to the material. If anyone is in San Diego area, I can give you info on who did mine. Also reasonable prices...and lifetime replacement for bubbling, peeling...forever.

@Markuson , I originally posted a current picture of my truck with the 35" ridge grapplers on 20" wheels.

TexAZ, that is what I am looking for out of my cruiser. Looks good. I would most likely stay with the stock rims or if I can swing it some new ones. How hard was it getting all the parts together for the Tundra conversion? How hard was it to install?

sounds like OP isn't a fan of the 20's, so I posted an old picture from back when I had 34's on rock warriors.

Ohhh. :)

Have you ever measured your RG's for mounted diameter?

I did when I was measuring to fit a spare underneath. I forget the exact measurement, I believe they were 34.5 ish...when new.

TexAZ, I don't mind 20s but would prefer the more meat on the rim look. I am digging the Rock Warriors though. I will have to look into that parts list and start my search. I will look into the tint option as well. The LC does have tint on it but the front passenger window is starting to peel. That may be a good time to redo the entire vehicle. I do have a small tear on the back of the middle seat middle row. My wife said it just showed up one day....It looks like someone threw something in the back while the rear seats were stowed and it caught the back of the seat on the way in. She did glue it down so I think seat covers are in order.

I appreciate all the comments, it is giving me a better understanding of what I can do to circumvent the minimal, first world problem of the tan interior. Eventually I will be able to purchase one fairly new with the options I want. I hope to be able to make it to the get together in July with mods complete.

what part of Texas are you in?

TexAZ, I am in San Antonio for now.

You'll be hard pressed to find another sub 100K mile cruiser. the Salsa/Tan wasn't my first choice, but it was too good a deal to pass up.
if the tan bothers you, there are seat covers and floor mats that cover almost all the tan color.
being in Texas, a lighter interior may make the truck feel cooler, even though there is no actual temperature difference between light and dark if you tint the windows.

just for reference, here is an 08' with tundra conversion, sliders, roof rack, and 35s.

What is entailed in this Tundra front end.
Wasnt someone compiling a list or even a kit for this?

In my former life I was exempt from the MA tint laws for occupational reasons and had pretty dark tint. But that was several years back. I’m currently in VA which also has ridiculous tint restrictions, particularly in comparison to our neighboring states, but I digress...

I recently researched tinting options and was pleasantly surprised at the technological advances in the ~20 years since I last researched tint.

I just got LLumar Formula One Stratos installed on sides and back (50% front and 35% rear/back). While I’d prefer the front darker to match the rear it’s legal and looks acceptable. I also could have gone darker in the rear but wanted to be able to see when backing up at night without adding lights and also felt like going “limo” would attract more attention to my nondiscript Toyota. The sunroof got LLumar Air Series which is clear, and like the Stratos, is a ceramic film. Not inexpensive, in comparison to other films it appears you get what you pay for in this instance and the Stratos carries a lifetime transferable warranty.

I went with LLumar as it’s manufactured in VA and I had a “LLumar Select Pro” installer nearby. There are other brands of comparable quality and functionality out there (ie 3M, etc). I haven’t experienced the tint in all its glory during the summer months yet but there is a noticeable difference in the amount of solar heat that comes through. This is definitely an improvement over the tinting I had years ago in that regard. I’d recommend it irrespective of interior pallet choice. If for some reason one is adverse to tint per se, check out clear films as they’ll still offer decent IR/heat rejection and UV protection.

Just to follow the thread detour I recently picked up a 2002 LS430 with an acre of front windshield.

It wasn’t cheap, but 3M’s Carbonite(?) is 0-10% dark and approved for use in Texas on windshields. Killer heat rejection.
