Hi everyone, I’m considering trading up my 2017 Lexus GX 460 Premium for a 2016+ Lexus LX 570.

I love my GX 460 and the off road capability with luxury that it offers, however I need a little more space in my SUV, so I’ve been looking at a 2016+ Toyota Landcruiser, but those SUV’s are north of $90K with decent miles.

As a result, I’ve been looking at a 2016+ Lexus LX 570 which has more luxury features and sells for much less.

I do the occasional off roading but mostly pavement use, so the LX 570 should work well for me and my family.

I’m looking for anything around 30K - 50K miles for anywhere between $60K and $70K, so is that a reasonable price range for what I’m looking for?

Also with the height control system, is it an airbag system or hydraulic?

I also understand that with the height control system, I cannot apply a lift kit, so is it possible to drive around at the highest setting or is the highest setting only available when off roading or while using 4 low?

I'd encourage you to read up more on the LX. Don't be deceived that it's anything less or less capable for extreme use. It's arguably has more capacity for tires and lifts in some ways, while keeping balance for everyday use.

Thanks, I’ll read it as soon as I get the chance.

Is it possible to fit 33” tires over the 20” wheels and do I need to use the highest AHC setting for this case?

Also, will the spare tire carrier underneath support a 33” spare tire?

You can do 33s without problems. AHC height doesn't really matter when fitting larger tires. You can fit up to a 34" tire in the spare location. You can use high mode up to around 20mph in high gear and a bit faster in low gear.

High mode is available only up to 20 mph or so, then it returns to normal.
You can run up to 295/70r18 with minor plastic wheel well moving.
You can set the suspension higher permanently using the sensors ‘sensor lift’ but it won’t change gross clearance, just where the stroke is offset. The tire would still run out of clearance at the travel extremes, just not daily.
I run a 35x10.5r17 (34,5 book) and have no rubbing after the minimal plastics moving in front wheel well.
Read a couple lx build threads for color.
Both lx and tlc are capable and comfortable, for almost all uses it comes down to styling and preference.
Many builds are linked in member signatures, turn your phone sideways to see the signature.
My build thread is the best :flush:

The 200 isn’t that much larger than a gx imo. Little more room to spread in the front seat, little more legroom in the back seat…it really is a “medium large” suv.

I’d wait for the new sequoia if I wanted larger than a gx.

New Sequoia does not have full time 4wd. That for me is a deal killer. The previous gen Sequoia would be a great option if he wanted more room. Very flexible 4wd system. No CRAWL tho but it does not seem like OP needs it. The only negatives are the rounded bulbous look and cheap interior.

And independent rear suspension

I came from GX470 to LX570 mainly for extra space.
It might look small on paper but the size difference is considerable IMOH ( cramped to spacious).
My biggest complaint about LC200 platform is that the 2nd row passengers have no foot room under the front seats. GX has abundance of foot room…it is just more narrow.

But that could be a bad thing (if he off-roads) or a good thing (tons of 3rd row room and fold flat).
Yes, but if you want a people hauler with IRS the minivan market would be more compelling

Towing and still decent off-road/bad weather with full-time 4wd / low range and A-TRAC.

You can’t do neither in minivan.

I had no legroom on GX 2nd row seat either.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

While the new Sequoia TRD Pro looks awesome, I’m a huge fan of a big V8, old school yet “tried and true” technology, a full time 4WD system and legendary reliability plus off road capability with luxury and comfort.

That’s why I love my GX 460 so much, but I just want something bigger with double the capabilities and double the things that make the GX 460 so great, which is why I wanted to buy the Landcruiser. However the Landcruiser is so expensive and the LX 570 provides all the capability of the Landcruiser with more luxury. :)

To put it another way, my other car is a 2017 C7 Corvette Z06 (manual transmission) and I wouldn’t sell it unless I could buy the C7 Corvette ZR1 (manual transmission).

So the Lexus LX 570 is the “Corvette ZR1 upgrade” to my Lexus GX 460.

Another question is that my GX 460 has KDSS which is fantastic with handling on and off road. Since the LX 570 doesn’t have KDSS, how does it compensate?

LX has AHC and thin(ner) sway bars to do the handling.

She flexes within spitting distance of a Land Cruiser with KDSS and significantly higher than a 4Runner with KDSS. Pre 2016 models fair a bit better because of less aggressive overhangs.

OP both the LX and GX are great vehicles and plenty capable. You don’t need to worry about the LX being too soft for hard work. Mine has not been babied and it never really flinches.

I’ve had both and for this stage of my life…(2 kids under 4 year old)I prefer my LX. As @tbisaacs mentioned. They are plenty capable. I’m running 35s with little effort, no front sway bars and some modifications to the AHC and the truck takes a beating.
