Hello

I am Thinking of buying Pioneer AVH-P3200BT or AVH-P4200DVD for Lexus LX470 1998 but i am most worried about the installation i read alot but i still get confused now i opened the stock stereo and saw how the wires are connected what i am afraid of is will the AVH3200BT work on my lexus lx470 model 1998?

and will there be any cutting or soldering in wires ? because i never changed a car stereo before so i dont know anything about it and if anyone have it installed please tell me.

Thank you.

as i read in your post it seems you took it to a shop and how much did it cost you ?

$75 for install and then I ordered the custom fascia to go around it since our LXs have a curved top portion and is not perfectly straight like LC. There is only one company making it and they only sell to audio dealers and it was another $125 for a little plastic piece of crap. Expensive but it looks factory and I did not want to pay for the time to custom fit a flat piece that would never be exactly right...or try it myself.

I took them the wiring schematics for my radio I found on here plus they were able to get another from Toyota dealership to show the pin outs. Took him longer to take off all the tape and goo (previous owner took out aftermarket and went back to Nakamich OEM it appears)......than to hook it up.

I kept subwoofer, speakers, amp, etc......just put in the DVD head unit.

I want to install it myself but it seems a bit hard to make it so i want to take it to a shop but i am afraid they dont know how to install it that is why i still didn't order it, i am doing alot of searching about how to install DIY without shop installation but it seems hard to find for lexus lx 470 1998, and i want to keep the amp and the rest of stock speakers without changing only want to install the new receiver but i heard its hard to bypass the stock amp so that scared me off.

and about the plastic i hope i can find a good shape or someone to do it for me because its extremely deffecult to do.

unless your amp is different than mine, it is not a big deal to use the amp and only replace head unit. On mine I kept everything and used it (speakers, subwoofer, amp).....they just had to put a 12v switched power lead to the amp so it would wake up when I turned on the LX. The newer ones use a DAC signal so cant do it but 2000 or 2001 and earlier use a simple 12v input I was told.

First shop I went to tried to tell me they would have to bypass amp or I would have to rip it all out and install new. Due to reading here in MUD I knew this was not right so found another shop that said...yep, if it is simple 12v signal for amp and we get wiring schematic for speaker harness it should be simple. It was very simple on wiring...took about 20 minutes....and rest was the custom fascia so it looks factory after install and cleans it all up nice.

Do you have the speakers harness because i also might take it there if he didn't know how to fix it in. and thanks for letting me know about the 12v i didn't know about it.

EDIT:

I found this.

yep...that is the stuff.

yep, notice the stereo amp trigger...just has to be tapped from 12v keyed source.

if your shop cant get the fascia I mentioned let me know and will give you info for them to contact my shop I used unless I can find their link myself for the vendor.

i installed this in my 1998 100 and it harnessed right up with no issues. There are pictures around here somewhere.

i searched the forum and i am still looking please if you can help me find the pictures and please can you tell me how you fixed the wires up? did you cut the original wires or you bought a metra harness and you connected directly without cutting the wires?

There is no harness for the LX with factory Nakamichi system...none...nowhere. If you had any other radio you might be able to use LC harness...but if LX with Naki unit then you have to cut and splice.

I had the same experience.

I never was given the source but for what I was getting I did not care...here is number and guy that owns shop to talk to directly if desired.

you will use the original mounting brackets but there is some slight modification to make it sit right in the dash with your D-DIN head unit. We had to grind some ears/tabs off the side of the plates to make a different set of holes line up properly and get the whole thing out flush with front of dash.

I think all of this is in the build thread..and just added the contact info above as well.

Many thanks... I now have all the info needed to do the converion on my 01LX..... that was the last bit I was not sure about. about a year ago I was looking for that bit of plastic... what people were doing back then was cutting up used landcruiser dashes if they could find one... this is the very first I have heard of this kit... worth the money compared to the time and aggrivation for a shady tree job with likely sub par result.

Just installed this very unit in my 98 last night.. my factory amp was missing... so I purchased a jumper harness that was suggested in another thread and went from there..

FYI if you bypass the amp the harness will not be exact... you wont have power constant or switched up at the other end (factory stereo plug)... but it is simple enough to pop the plugs and move them around and use three of the 4 extra wires in teh harness to clip into the right plug spots...

I installed one that came with a rear view camera which was scary drilling a hole in my tailgate but I am very pleased with it... and truly love the head unit... best purchase for the price...

I went to a shop to install it today for me but there is a problem when i start the car and close it i hear pump from the speaks and also i hear like air is coming from the speakers even when i put the volume to 0 and also there is ZZZZZ sound when i start the car and its not clear. where is the problem?

the light hissing is noise from oem amp I was told as we tried everything else.....Looked like I will have to replace amp and speakers to get rid of that but only hear when it is at 0...when music playing I dont notice it at all.

I dont hear anything when closing door or anything else...sometimes a pop but dont notice it any more...will listen tomorrow to make sure.

So i have to replace my OEM amp and speakers to get rid of that zzz sound ? and what about the subwoofer ?

and also i have a problem with the aerial the man who worked on my car said that every time i start the car the aerial will go up even if i am not using the radio is there a solution for it? because he say there are no pin to control this so he hooked it up with the acc (when the car start).

about the pop i saw someone had a solution witch i will try tomorrow.

"POP" on shut down fixed!

Unhook Pioneer remote wire from Metra harness remote wire (leave bypass relay hooked up to Pioneer remote wire). Then get another relay (same kind you used for the e-brake bypass) and hook it up like this:
85: 12v ignition
87: 12v ignition
86: Ground
30: Remote wire going OUT to vehicle (on Metra harness)
87a: No connection

Voila..no more POP/THUMP when vehicle is shut off. The problem was that the Pioneer remote wire was not powering off fast enough when the deck shut off so that THUMP you're hearing is the capacitors in the system releasing their stored energy. The relay cuts power to the remote wire INSTANTLY so the OEM amp shuts off before the POP/THUMP.
