Had an overheating problem with my 92 Landcruiser (160K miles). Replaced radiator, water pump, fan clutch, thermostat, hoses; backflushed the system, etc. I did this based on some very good advice of some of the experienced members and things went very well. Thanks so much for help. Well, I got it all back together and running (but thankfully NOT on the road...yet) when I read that the orientation of the thermostat is important. Can anyone help me figure this out? First, does the spring side go up or down? I think I put it back in according to the rubber gasket seating and it looks like it only goes in one way. Second, which position on the clock does the 'jiggler valve' go in (when facing the engine from the front)? I know this sound basic...but I forgot which way this came out. Thanks for all your help and the great advice in this forum.

The spring points to the engine. The jiggle valve should be aligned with the protrusion of the water inlet pipe, +- 15 degree tolerance; so basically 12 o'clock is OK.

Pat has a 3FE, the thermostat mounts in a horizontal plane, not vertical like the 1FZ.
