Hey all.

I started my water pump, belts, thermostat, hoses job today. Everything is going well so far, minus about a half inch of skin I took off my right index finger. I did have a question about the thermostat though. My replacement (OEM) came with a regular fitted gasket and a rubber gasket (@1" round). I didn't notice a rubber gasket when removing the old thermo, so what gives? Did I miss it? Or was this gasket just thrown in on my order?

Also, when installing the water pump and gasket, do I put gasket adhesive on the entire mounting surface of the pump... or just where the gasket fits?

Thanks in advance. As always, I appreciate any help you can offer.

one sits on the top of the thermostat. could be what your problem was to begin with if it was missing. that was my problem. engine wouldnt get warm water kept getting by. if not oh well. its supposed to have it on top

I had the same issue.....the truck wouldn't get warm at all until I installed the missing upper gasket while replacing the thermostat.

Also, I didn't use any gasket adhesive when I installed the new water pump. That was only 4-5 months ago, but I haven't had any leaks.

Yep - round rubber gasket goes on top of the thermostat. Also, no need for gasket adhesive on the waterpump gasket.

Awesome. Easy enough fix on the thermostat. That would explain my low temp range since I have had the truck. I will add it tomorrow.

You guys are the best.

Thanks.

Not to sound like a complete NooB, but which side of the engine is the thermostat housing setting on for the 1FZFE motor in a 97 Landcruiser? Is it on the lower right side of the motor or the upper left? Usually the thermostat sits right under the upper radiator house, but the TLC is a little different.
