Theoretical air compressor question

That's a little over twice as fast as it takes my mv50 to get my 295/75/16s from 20-45psi. Still makes me think that for $50, 2 mv50s is going to be the fastest per dollar way to fill up.

I ran that setup for a few years, works well, when I stepped up to 37"s, upgraded to the Puma and never looked back.

Heck you could buy 4 for the price of a puma and fill all the tires at once in 5mins if your electrical system could take it.

Yep, but the Puma is a much stronger, more versatile compressor. I use it for things like blowing dust out of the rig, the :princess: likes that on long wheeling trips.

And a one way valve and a head unloader, etc. Try this test: Connect a MV50 to a tank, attempt to pump it to say 100PSI, note how it struggles. Say it makes it, now turn it off and attempt to restart, if it starts, repeat.

They are great pumps for relatively low pressure/high volume use. In my experience, they don't do high pressure well. They wont reliably restart with more than ~80psi. When hooked to a pressure switch and stalled on restart, is a very good way to burn it up. This is the only way that I have seen them burned up.

They are great for portable, tire airing, type use, if you need/want more, step up. Once you buy the pumps, tank, proper valves, control, etc, could have bought the Puma that already has all of that stuff. I currently have 3 MV50's and a Puma, have beat all of them long term, can from first hand experience, testify that the Puma is a much more solid pump in every way.
 
I am currently plumbing my truck for OBA with my twin compressor ARB. With a 2 gallon tank it runs air tools great and can break lug nuts loose with no issue. I aired up my 35" tire in under 2 minutes with this setup also.

I plan on buying a cheap 1/2" and 3/8" impact along with a air rachet to leave in the truck for trips
 
ToolsRUs, The primary function is to air the beadlocks up to about 20PSI after wheeling, I will do some testing starting under pressure before I commit to a pressure switch that is set at a high PSI. Thanks for the heads up .

I shouldn't need air tools on the trail since I don't normally wheel with jeep guys :popcorn:

Already have 2 MV50's I picked up for around $90 shipped. Used one already, pretty happy with it. Dual should be nice once I mount them up.
 
Just looked it up, it was $98 shipped on Amazon. Don't see them for under $60 any more, that was just before Christmas so maybe it was a sale.
 
I was considering this project again. But you all make a good point about the pressure stalls. I had an ARB mid size compressor on my 100. It was great for airing up tires and could even blow out dust. I loved the pressure switch. BUt even with a control valve, it sounds like an MV50 wouldn't be able to even pressurize the airline. Oh well. It was going to be a fun project. But it doesn't sound like it'll work out. My thinking was plumbing two together in parallel would yield around 5CFM at 30PSI. That's about as much as the $500 dual ARB compressor and almost twice what the puma can do.
 
You can't compare the MV50 to a twin ARB compressor. The ARB has 100% duty cycle vs the MV50's lack of rating. I imagine those will burn out quick if you try to run them similar to an ARB CKMTA12.
 
I have my 2 MV50's installed in parallel, they air up my 37's from 5-20 or so in right about 2 1/2 minutes each. For the price you can't beat them. Haven't tried a tank and check valve yet.
