We just bagged up the first picking of peas. 6 quarts. That's a lot of shucking but it's worth it.

Wow man. After trying my hand at peppers again this year, I need someone like you to write a handbook on how to get harvests like that.

What problems are you having? Peppers are absurdly easy to grow in warm climates.

Leave it to me to mess up with my black thumb. I'll try to give you all the facts...

My soil I had trucked in, it's a blend of clean top soil & compost/manure. I have banana peppers, jalapeño, and Serrano. All 3 took off and were growing fine until they were about 12-18" tall and the all made peppers. The banana peppers are still healthy and making some peppers but isn't getting any taller or bigger. The jalapeño was making peppers but then it just kind of wilted and doesn't look dead but doesn't look good. The Serrano.... The leaves just fell off it even when there were still a bunch of peppers growing on it.

I try not to give them as much water as my tomato plants. I do have a mesh cover on the garden for a little shade, but my dad has at least 50% shade on his garden and his peppers are very healthy.

I suspect they got too much water at some point, the soil doesn't drain well, and/or there's not enough nitrogen in the soil. My giant tomato plants are starting to look a little wimpy, but they are making a ton of fruit... I may need to try out some new plant food/fertilizer.

The way to get rid of a black thumb is to stubborn enough to keep killing plants until you get it right.

I suspect you're getting some pretty good heat there, peppers will grow in the heat if they get enough water, but they will be stressed and may not produce fruit. You got them to grow and produce, so you're doing a lot of things right. I'm surprised you're having the best luck with banana peppers. In my experience, they're the most susceptible to temp extremes.

I would bet they need more water. My best approach in the hot part of the year is to have well drained soil and water heavily and often, like daily. You prolly don't have quite the sun intensity as I do, but shade cloth is a good idea, I have 80% over mine. Enough sun still gets in to burn the few pepper I get in the summer.

Hang in there and keep trying, it's not rocket science and the rewards are worth it.

^Thanks for the tips. Seems like each year gets better than the one before. It's been sort of mild here so far, mostly high 80s and 90s, and a bunch of cloudy rainy days. I'm going to replant some stuff on Sunday and hope for a good harvest before it cools off.

Fresh Kale salad;
Honey, cider vinegar, olive oil, fresh herbs, garlic, dried apples, craisins, garlic, salt and pepper. Chopped fresh kale, the young tender leaves.

Funny, you guys are all getting started and I'm shutting down. Greens and snow peas=dead, maters=alive but not for long, garlic and onions harvested. My main garden has been taken over by peppers, the others will be pretty much just dirt until fall.

Herbs and okra thrive in the heat, peppers survive and grow but won't set much fruit until it cools a bit. Some people manage to get squash and melons to grow in the summer but I've not had good luck.

12 quarts of peas in the freezer and still picking but the picking is getting slim. Harvested the garlic and have broccoli about every night these days.

"Keeping Bob Warm" ;) ^^^^

Birds looks like they are going to force the harvest 2 weeks early this year.

Got a friend who makes an awesome craft beer out of them, but he will be off on vacation (3 weeks) about the time these will be picked and brown bagged. How long will they store in the fridge after ripening?

We grilled burgers last night and used onions, tomatoes and lettuce on the burgers and fresh corn, all from the garden.

The color on those..as usual:clap:

Nice
