My 2lte prado now made its way to 230,000 kms without cylinder head issues but definitely a blowby engine already. Oil pukes out of the dipstick, IP already swapped to a mechanical one. And it doesnt seem to give good mileage. But today the alternator puffed. So i decided to pull the alternator out. And things continued to come off the engine bay

I finally found a donor for a good engine swap instead of fixing the alternator since I took a lot of things out of the engine in the process.. Inlcuding a badly beaten radiator.
This custom van with 1kzte (auto tranny) will be up for salvage yard. The engine from the van seem to be a good replacement for the meantime.

For those who are looking to do the same swap in the future, you. Can use the a343f from the 2lte, and use the 1kz bell housing to mate the 1kzte to the a343f from 2Lte. Just few. Mods on the engine mount, and since the engine is from a custom van, the oilpan might be a problem too

Pulled the old 2lte out, it definitely is pouring oil everywhere. Il do a rebuild on this someday. The gap on the oilpan is quite xlose to hitting the front diff shaft. The custom van by the way is a 4x2 variant. I should swap out the oilpan, but because of budget i might just modify it for now.

Nice work! Love to see these Prados in PH! It was actually while I was travelling around the Philippines when I got the idea to own my own "box Prado" one day. Taga saan ka ba sa PH?

Taga mindanao sir. Area is Prone to natural calamities and land slides.. really bad roads. It is really nice to own one of this. Slow but reliable for daily use.

Awesome progress, I will be doing the same conversion soon but with a 1kzte from a surf.

What are you plans for wiring and fuel pump control?

I think your 1kzte from surf option is more likeable.. Are you going to run a343f tranny aswell? For the wiring, i sorted it out alrrady, it took me 2 days to patiently trace and rewire the engine harness. But I will have to test it after modifying the oilpan issue. I plan to keep the factory injection pump for now 😉

I will be keeping the A343f, both my LJ78 and the surf have this gearbox.

All the posts about converting with a A343f gearbox never get finished. My concerns are with the transmission control, in the LJ78 the gearbox is managed by the engine ECU but in the surf it has a separate ECU.

I have the whole car so I have a few options.

Hoping to make a start over the Easter break.

The 1kzte van has a separate tcm for the a343 transmission, and my prado lj78 also has a separate tcm controlling the a343f i found it under the glovebox.. I figured the one from the 2lte has more simple input. I will post pics soon. 26 pin for both, but will not work swapping tcms as i tested it. OD error will appear

Ash awbery, the thing is, bith ecu and tcm are entangled in one harness.. Really a pain to trace and separate the ecu wires from 2lte. I might be able to finish the engine swap nextweek as well. Im still stuck with oilpan problem. This is the one that should clear d diff.. One from prado 90 kz. Totally different from thr 1kz van (4x2)

Slow progress on the build.. Still cutting the oilpan for now. The 1kd and 1kz has similar pattern for the oilpan.

It ran well for a week,.
Any updates on this? I have pulled the engine out of my LJ78 ready to start looking at the 1kzte swap. I was very happy with the power. Then it started to have few issues ... It would cut out while driving. Then start again after letting it rest. The "usual" symptoms of a problematic 1kzte. It turned out to be a leaking capacitor on the ecu. I sent the eci for repair. I hope it does work, otherwise plan b, mechanical injector pump is the way to go
