Well guys after four months of shopping, well over a thousand miles, and having looked at and driven nine 100 series' we finally bought one. If your interested in the back story here it is: https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=93519&highlight=diminished

I was amazed at how hard it was to find a clean, low mileage 100 series. We ended up expanding our search area to a 100 mile radius. These were not trail damaged cruisers but just pure neglect on the part of the former owners. The most persistant problems we saw were damage to any or all four corners of the bumpers, red mud (carolina clay) stains on the carpet, and seriously neglected leather.

The 100 we bought is 2000 model with 69000 miles, tan leather with no wear. It has one scratch on the passenger side door and the antenna does not go up and down. I did a search and found some threads regarding this problem. TIA

This LC will not see the trail until it is handed down to me from my wife. That's what the 80 is for. She has been driving the 80 daily now for four months without too much complaint (and zero problems I might add). Now that I have it back I can do some PM I have been putting off. (birfs., brakes, and suspension)

Thanks for reading this far. I don't post much on MUD, mostly just lurk and learn. I am sure I will have some questions in the future and if I can add any insight I will do so.

Here is a poser shot of the new addition.

PS- There is a 100 series in the For Sale section by "sJs". This cruiser was at the top of our list until we found the one we bought. Santiago has a nice cruiser with a little more wear and miles than we wanted. One nice thing about his cruiser are the SS brake lines. His cruiser stops on a dime. This is a mod I am very interested in. Santiago if you are reading this good luck with your new job and it was pleasure to meet you.

Hope she feels safer in the new ride! Good choice and welcome to the 100 side of the house.

Nice LC tandem!

Shotts,
Even though I am new to the 100 section your reputation preceeds you. Therefore I am not surprised by your response. :flipoff2:

:D :D

Wouldn't you rather drive that new beast with the V8? Or will you be wheeling in the nasty stuff?

(If nasty...of course...we all need 80's)(If moderate to difficult you'd luv a 100 out there)

It can't be too nasty because that 80 looks CLEAN!

Brad,

Glad to hear that your search is over and that you (and your wife) seem happy about it.

ENJOY!

Welcome to the dual owners club. I enjoy both trucks each are unique in their own way. But the 100 is truely a more refined beast.

I agree with your plan on letting your wife use the 100, especially after being in an accident, where fortunately she did not get seriously injured. Peace of mind, safety, and comfort are reasonable desires/expectations after totalling a car. Besides, an 80 for an off roader is a great option.

My wife was unharmed in an accident in between having our 100s and getting back in a 100 was a priority. She loves the 100. She has better visibility in it and feels the other drivers see and respect the 100 better. She never considered an 80, it is too trucky for her, given a choice. Besides, the 100 is better and safer for her (esp with TRAC/VSC).

We had the same difficulty finding a used 100 in excellent condition. Most were not cared for appropriately, as you noted.
