Yep, I am thinking of this like it's a snowmobile trip... just on two wheels. Jonathan suggested we hit up the Crested Butte Hostel. I took a peak at their website, looks more upscale than any hostel I have ever seen lol Their website didn't have rates listed past August, I called them and got their after hours and their reservations people will call me back in the AM. Looks like we can get a private bunk room with 4 bunks for pretty darn cheap if we want to go that route.

Here's a webcam I found for downtown Crested Butte if you guys want to take a peak. Looks like they might be getting some snow tomorrow and tapering off Saturday so there is a good chance we'll be rolling into some slush. I'm kind of looking forward to playing in the snow but just an FYI for you guys. Make sure you dress warm and bring waterproof/windproof layers. Weather on the other side of Kebler looks nice, 62 Sat, 65 Sun in Paonia so we should get the full gamut of seasons this weekend.

I am pretty much packed up and ready to ride, just need to survive a couple more days of work!

All right dudes, 4 bunks at the Hostel booked and paid for. Bunks came to $29.00 each, the front desk lady said they didn't have any other reservations for this weekend so far and they don't have any staff on-site after 8PM during their off season so we may have the entire joint to ourselves.

Yep, it definitely hit us, going to be a muddy one for sure. The section from Baylor Park to about 10 miles outside of Electric Mountain are going to be gooey. The rest of the stuff is pretty hardpack and/or graded so I don't think it will be too slick. Good new's is we'll be getting the gnar out of the way pretty much first thing while we're fresh.

That looks like some great riding out there, I am game for a reschedule. We will probably want to do something down your way though, the snow has hit up here and it is SLICK!! I went part way up the Leadking Basin loop and it was a little tense at times coming back down.

I would love to do a good long ride out west. I'm out this weekend but may have dates available in the future. The great thing about eastern Utah is that you can ride/wheel in the middle of winter most of the times.

San Rafael Swell anyone?
If not there are some great rides closer to town. Gateway, Fruita, Thompson etc.

That would have been awesome! Maybe we can plan a sag-wagon 4x4 and bikes combination trip sometime down the road. I would be game to switch off driving/riding or bringing an extra bike so everyone could do a little of both.

That would be cool. I'd love to stir some dirt on a two wheeler again. Have not ridden since about 1990, but think I could handle an easier section (NOT Rose Garden Hill). Like the thought of trading off cause I'd don't know how we'd carry an extra bike.

To bad we don't have one of those AT flat bed trailers.

Ace and I talked about how cool it would be to do the Kokopelli with moto's and trucks together. Like Ace I haven't ridden a dirt bike since the early 90's either.

Also doing it with mountain bikes would be fun also. Being able to actually start the Kokopelli at Loma on mountain bikes and switching to the truck at Rabbit Valley would be sweet. Then swicthing back to bikes for the single track section at Cisco/Fish Ford to Dome Plateau would allow you to do the section we had to drive around. Other section to ride on the bike could be RGH although it was a thrill to drive it in the FJ.

I'd be good either with M/C or MTB but would not want to ride either on RGH. It would either be me carrying the bike down or someone carrying ME out.

FYI for you FJ owners, the bottle jack does interfere with the spare tire. It's hardly worth mentioning for a stock size spare but it stuffs the crank part of the bottle jack about an inch into the tread on a 33. This makes the first few pumps a PITA as you are fighting against the tire on the upstroke. Fairly minor hassle for an otherwise awesome carrier.

There are lots of places on the Koko where you'd be dragging that carrier and probably get hung up stuck. I was dragging my hitch mounted clevis. That said I have to admitt that Doug was hauling a custom hitch hauler that dragged in many spots but we only had to remove it once on Rose Garden Hill. However it has a lot of rise in it and Dougs running a 2.5" lift on his FJ.

Let's just put 4 250s on my Adrenalin and call it a day. The only spot I would have issues would be Rose Garden Hill and I'd be fine driving around that.

Ran into these strange "hybrids" up on the Mesa today. They must give land managers fits trying to decide is it a m/c or snowmobile? Either way it looked like fun!
