Here are some pics of my KLR on a lunch ride from my work. Love working by the bookcliffs!

Moto Wrench-a-Thon?

Greetings fellow Toyota 4x4 enthusiasts. I am looking forward to the Wrench-A-Thon in a couple days. Thanks again to Matt (and Doug!) for the awesome hookup on the BajaRack! I can't wait to see it on the FJ and I'm already shopping for a RTT.

I was wondering if there would be any interest in a winter moto maintenance/mod day? I have a lot of supplies and moto specific tools I can contribute. Potentially provide a large heated garage if there is more interest in having a session up this way. Generally during the winter I strip my bikes down and grease all the bearings, adjust the valves, etc. I'll probably be throwing a new piston and rings in the CRF, kicking around the idea of a doing a 280cc big bore kit. I realllyyy like the big bore kit on the KLR. Anyways, I'm rambling. Any interest?

That would be cool and I am intersted. I need to do the doohickey on my KLR soon and a bit nervous about tackling it on my own. I know Jon has a KLR as well. I dont know if he has done the doo though.

Doohickey Party!!!

Doohickey Party!!!

Do the Doo!!! I need to do mine as well. I would also strongly recommend the rear subframe bolt upgrade. I hear that the ass of your bike can fall right off if you jump it big with a full load of camping gear.

My girlfriend gave me an odd look when I told her I was planning to get together with a few guys and wrench on our doohickeys. Women have no appreciation for mechanical prowess these days.

Long time no post. I am still alive! I have all the parts and tools to do the doo on my Tengai. Also planning to upgrade the battery. Motorcycles, tools and beer. Sounds like a good day to me.

Good to see you are still alive and kickin! Sounds like quite the doohickey posse we are gathering. I can't wait to check out the Tengai!

Need to do the drill through subframe upgrade ASAP too. Cool to see that in such a small club we have 3 KLRs and 1 Tengai. Sweet.

Got to keep following this thread just to find out what this doohickey is. ; )

 It is the balancer chain adjuster lever. The stock lever is a thin two part welded piece that is notorious for failing and is tensioned by a very thin coil spring that is also notorious for spontaneously disintegrating into 1,000 fragments of shrapnel. The common upgrade is to swap the "Doohickey" and spring out with a much beefier solid machined unit from Eagle Manufacturing and a nice solid torsion spring.

For the 08+ models the KLR got an upgraded Doohickey but the spring is now too long and quickly runs out of tension leaving your balancer chain slapping around inside the case.

Wow. Well, I asked. Must be fun doing inventory at this doohickey factory.

Looking into studding a set of tires and building a ski rack for either the CRF or the KLR. I rode the KLR up to Sunlight once last year with my skis strapped to my pack and it was a blast. Definitely a great way to enjoy some bluebird days and I'm looking to extend my motorcycle commuting season. Anyone else riding this winter?

Yes, but on my fat bike.

I rode yesterday around town running errands. Dont know if this counts though.

Been riding the KLR to work in the mornings. Sure is nice to get out on the KLR!

Anyone else commuting to work yet?
