We just spent a week in the New York Mountains in the Mojave (SE California). Had a great time; hit several fine canyons; hardly saw a soul. But has anyone driven the road coming into Sagamore Canyon at the top -- from the direction of Keystone Canyon? It was steep, narrow, deeply rutted, and at one point we thought our stock '94 80 was going to tip over into the canyon -- it was that bad. The Cruiser took it all in stride, though. Wish I had a picture, but there was no stopping. Anybody else been there?

Glad to hear you had a good time!

Yep, we've done it but last year we had a stock pick-up with us so we parked and did the hike. Over the last three years the roads in the Mojave Preserve have taken a beating due to all the rain. We're heading back out there Thursday, just in time for thundershowers.

It was clouding up by the end of our trip, but nary a drop of water came down. We found running water in several places, but they all would have looked even better with another rain or two.

There's a place called the "New York Mountains" in CA??? Interesting

I guess that's kind of like the city of Florida, NY. ;)

Yeah, it's in California, but it always feels like Nevada to us. It's pretty close to the Nevada border, and it's wild and wooly out there.
