nice
what's with the license plates having the same ending?

thank you!

the ending is the province and a series letter. so in this case they are "UBP" which means they were registered in the capital city (its own province) of Ulaan Baatar, and I guess they were registered in the same year or at least close to each other (series P). there are only about ~300,000 cars registered in the country iirc, so there is not the same need for tons of unique license plate numbers as in a lot of places.

did you drove a mongolian truck all the way to Georgia?

that would have been awesome, but unfortunately no -- I realize I should clarify, the Georgia pic is Georgia in the US (not the country!)

the Mongolia pics are from weekend/long weekend trips that friends and I took around the country. I was working in the capital city but tried to get out to the countryside whenever able. for instance the snow looking pics are from a fall trip we took out to see a famous waterfall -- weather projections are not great, and a blizzard came through on our way to the waterfall. all except the last of the green LC were from a trip we took up to the Russian border and then to a famous monastery in the summer, and then the last is of another fall trip that we took to try and see a cemetery where Kubilai and a few other famous khans are supposedly buried.

the guy we would rent from had a small fleet of LCs (80s and 100s -- we rented whichever was available) and a Ford Everest (honestly fine once off the road . . . less so on the road). we also sometimes took trips with Mongolians who often had LCs. Mongolians all aspire to own an LC some day if they don't have one already (there is only one vehicle that you want for the least densely populated country where there are no roads except between the largest towns and temperatures can plummet to -40... hint: it's not a Land Rover)

because I was usually in the LC I neglected to get as many pics of it. i realize now that I should have taken more! I have some more from other trips on my computer that I will have to go through.
