You shared a picture of your shower with me earlier..in keeping with the finest traditions of the MUD forum, I’m practicing OPI (other people’s Ideas). I lifted your stone idea (fair and square) and I’m now calling it my own. 😎 I’m getting around your copyright by flipping the application for a slightly different visual.. 🍻
May we both live to the day we clink glasses!

Shared a moment like that 8 years ago with @3_puppies when me and the missus were passing through Montana on our way home from Chicago

OCB and I spent the better part of half an hour going over “possibilities” for the application/layout of the ceramic tile. In the end simplicity took a step forward and I decided on the ease of application as my screening criteria. There was even some spirited debate over “tile on the floor or tile on the hearth”. Due to the potential copyright infringement ref: Marks out door shower, tile on the hearth was the clear winner. 🏆

The alchemy of mixing the original cabin centric feel with the “other” direction it’s taken is a delicate balance, it’s not to be taken lightly, there is a madness to the mayhem..🤣

Criteria #2. Like the two guys garage built cabinets, the hearth had to pull off the back woods built theme.

So it begins…

It’s hard to tell from the IPhone photos, the ceramic pulls the reds/oranges from the floor and ceiling while the bronze and brown taps into the wall. Hope to have the remaining cement board up today. Wet bulb is on the high side today so the geezer guild rules are in effect.

Getting down to the hearth of the matter…

After reapplying the missing insulation we took to task. First slice of concrete board going up. Test fit the stove.

It’s official, store bought river rock on the vertical surface. 1st row up. The right stone for the job. Colors are right. Pulling highlights from around the room(s).

I’m giving you Hemingway-esque short sentences today. It was 90+ outside ambient temp. 🥵

Currently engaged in a ancient Celtic rehydration ritual…If the limes hold out I’ll resurface later.

Looks great

Thanks- It’s taking shape. We’re off until Monday AM. The geezer guild requires at least a 72hr break going into the weekend.
I don’t make the rules I just abuse them… 🍻

I’m a day off from dropping something for Norman in the post. Don’t judge, I’m old, cantankerous and prone to fits of aimless wandering (wondering)…

Hit the hill at approx 0900 today. You could see the blue haze hugging the hills and that big orange ball climbing toward a rendezvous with a weather alert…

Moved everything that was inside outside again and set up shop. At this juncture I realized I’d forgotten my glasses. Not that I can read a tape measure, but those 2.75 readers give those tiny little lines meaning.

Every time I used the tile saw today I held my breath. After every pass I stood back and counted my digits. And, despite the odds, I managed to keep all twelve of them in place without incident.

It was an honest days work. Trying to finish up the river rock application on Monday and start the grout work on the hearth the same day. We’ll see how that plays out.

I like the vibe. Taxidermy, tattooed Celtic women, river rock and a Meade Horn What’s not to like?!

I can’t say I haven’t been side-eyeing the postman.

Normally I would be frittering away the day doing important things like restocking 🍋🟩 limes, testing the ice maker or seasoning a filet. Unfortunately someone who shall remain nameless, because it’s illegal to incriminate yourself on MUD, forgot to close a window in Meade Hall.

Decided a summer torrential downpour pour would not be good for CBs effort on the wood floors. So I saddled up the Tundra and made the trip out in the county.

On my way home I decided that I should reward myself for my noble efforts. Found myself cruising the parking lot of the Stihl dealership for no apparent reason.

Walked out with two pieces of must have essentials. It’s not really my fault. The young lady behind the counter could have sold flies to the garden club…😁

Extendable pole saw 🏆
Backpack blower 🏆

Took a pic from back near the grand entrance to give a better perspective on the rock to wood proportion.

Barring any other self induced crisis, I’ll be back on the Hill Monday AM..

Stihl makes a fine product.
I awarded myself a (another) real nice tree cutter downer a few Christmas’s back. Tuned it for altitude and it does equally well at 667’ as at 9,998’.

Pole saw, blowers and string trimmer are all Dewalt 20v. Just got tired of rebuilding carburetors.

Oh, the hearth is looking real nice. Hope to dry my feet with a bourbon in hand by it someday.

Standing invite…

While not a bourbon man per se, I’m not opposed to a medicinal application…now and then.

Huge fan of the battery operated varieties. The Hill calls for a more robust assortment of internal combustion essentials. I test drove the saw today for Ms Revenge. She has an appetite for destruction and the new saw drew her approval. Must be something in the 2cycle exhaust.

Pretty sure all my 2 stroke tools are Stihl. I probably use my backpack blower 4 or 5 times per week. Definitely the most used tool in my arsenal. Nice pole saw. I have the 130cc Kombi with the pole saw attachment and an extension. Not as nice as the one you just bought but it gets it done.

Good know, that extension is on my list to grab, the Kombi system is great.

Necessity provoked me.

The “driveway” is not conducive to using a chain saw. I needed something I could reach out/up with. Same scenario when I mow the backfield. I’ve been slapped by more hickory limbs than a sailor in Shanghai.

“The Hill” has never been what I would call civilized. This is my vane attempt at bringing it to heal. It’s all mostly WV hillside. Sunlight runs down hill after 8:00AM and pools at the bottom of the hollows. Any advantage I can gain now should buy me an honorable mention for stewardship at some point.

The next fella serving beverages around the fire pit to “Charlie” and I will appreciate the effort….

No excuses now for scrubbing that limb with a broad head….

That’s a good point. Now I have to come up with a whole new set of excuses..😉🤣
