Finished up setting the river rock. I like the product. It’s has a good beat and it’s easy to dance to. Minimum effort required to align the sheets for the once over application. I found it easier in some cases to remove the stone and apply for a custom fit.

Leaving variations in the grout lines for that random “home spun” effect.

Next up…Grouting ops. Staging water in preparation. I think if we break the geezer guild rules, we can finish up in a single day.

I’ll be back out yonder Thursday AM. Giving everything plenty of time to set up before we begin slinging mud.

Started filling the large wood rack. I’m kicking around the idea of adding a fire ring off of the new porch. 🤔

Dig it.
And yes to a fire pit.

Currently there’s Charlie’s fire pit. It’s basically a no nonsense, down and gritty place to stand around and tell hunting stories/lies. Perfect after a day in the field. I’m thinking something a little less utilitarian. Something you can watch while sitting on the back porch or from a comfortable camp chair. Don’t judge, I’m old..

There’s a local stone yard/nursery that has a “bargain bin” section. 1/2 pallets, loose stone and pieces left over from job sites. I was nosing around there last year when I picked up the fruit trees. Didn’t have time for extraneous ideas then but this fall/winter, after hunting season, I may put something down.

It’s in there percolating…..

Running it to ground.

Had to slide grouting ops to the right by one day. Started on the vertical surface and worked downwards.
The “molasses” turned out better than the phone camera can swear to. Managed to hang a few boards on the bathroom ceiling in between drying times.

Invoked the geezer guild rules and broke contact at 1:00. Back on the hill Sunday to finish up. Bathroom/kitchen cabinets are on deck.

Geezers and regalia.

Finished up the bathroom ceiling and started on the walls. Forgot to document the ceiling. I’ll add a pic tomorrow. I used up some small pieces and a board with a questionable parental lineage in the near corner. They’ll be hidden by the vanity so no carpentry foul could be called. 😉

Adding the remainder of the barn lumber above the tongue & groove. Oriented vertical. It has good visual appeal in my head so we’ll go with it. I couldn’t decide if I wanted to add stain or let it roll natural. It has a very light plane. My inclination is to go natural and add urethane after it hung. The clear really brings out the grain and highlights the variation(s) in the boards/species.

When I did my tiny house I video taped the whole house interior to note asbuilts for all plumbing and electrical. Helped tremendously when doing the ship lap. It would suck to send a nail through pex or romex! Looking good. There is mold resistant varnish you can apply in “wet areas”. This is a bathroom which may not apply unless you have future occurrences of explosive lettuce stuff.

Looking good. Vertical orientation will take a lot more cribbing than you have installed but I guess you know that already. Glancing to the far right though, that vent pipe will give you issues. Agree it will probably look great though.

Nail plates will save the day.

Actually it's a code requirement in most areas, to prevent nails from shorting out romex, or poking holes through plumbing.

Namely that pvc vent line that is run horizontally, 1/2 deep in that stud.

Removed what was previously installed IOT work the vertical orientation. I’ll post up pics tomorrow for scrutiny. 🧐

In between making saw dust and breaking building code in 49 states and territories, I cleaned the tile/stone with a sponge and straight white vinegar. 80% solution. I’ll hit it again tomorrow to eradicate the last remnants of a semi-amateur grout application.

The stone and tile are looking better with each cleaning. 🧽

Once dry, I’ll add a sealer and finish setting the trim work so I can move on to “other”.

Do share pics of large bourgeois banquets when time comes. Costumes and all.

Bouncing Bougie in the Land of Nod usually means there isn’t a hiking trail to your bathroom door. 😎🤣
👆🏻 :bounce:

Or, or or, you no longer need wheels on your new house. But, I’ll make sure to document the annual “Lord of the Flies, new hunter orientation and bake sale” this fall. We’ll be debuting our new loin cloths.

Moma sed’ there'd be days like this.

The generator decided today was a good day to cough, sputter then fizzle out all together. Gas - oil - spark all checked out. Exploratory surgery is scheduled for later. Backup Gen will assume all duties assigned.

In the brief period before the gremlins took over we (+CB) managed to install nail guards in accordance with Section 312.9 of the WV building code and hang our stringers in prep for the barn wood. No Romex or PVC pipe was harmed during the installation.

The kick out for the gas stove was insulated w/rigid insulation and buttoned up. Still needs trimmed and stained.

Spent an hour or so cleaning up then tucked my tail and slithered off of the hill.

No pics (yet). Frustrating day. 🤬

Not mentioned but not overlooked..💯. Two pieces remaining to install on the water lines coming into the shower head. After “the great generator blackout of 26”, I hung my tool belt and walked away.

Well thank God for that. :D

.....but what about the Pex?

Mother nature has a calming effect…

After “the great generator collapse of 26”, figured it was a good time to set down my hammer for a few days IOT regroup and refocus. Without hesitation, Ms Revenge and I loaded up the LC and headed N/E. A few days in the cool mountain air with no excitement or pressing issues to speak of, would be a welcome salve for the soul. Sipping my first cup of black coffee, It was 57* on the mercury the first morning.

Long exhale for effect as we down shifted into “Relaxation Mode”. 😎

A days worth of rest and recuperation culminated in a grilled steak, house shoes and a leisurely trip in the rocking chair(s). We watched the sun dip lazily behind the horizon, blink and settle into a fading crimson sky.

Adrenaline favors the swift.

As dusk began to weave its way through the trees and pool at the edge of woods, tranquility hit a trip wire and the evening was no longer a bucolic daydream.

“It’s a @#$&%+§ bear” radiated and echoed across the lake, reverberating back and forth in a high pitched echo. The idyllic evening shattered into a thousand fragments of chaotic movement and unbridled profanity. Ms Revenge set a new land speed record in the bipedal Sixty and Over Division as she launched up and over me, pirouetting in mid air and sticking a perfect landing squarely on the Welcome mat.

Unable to stave off my Neanderthal like curiosity, I stood up and made my way to the end of the porch and asked her “No kidding, where”?

It was at this precise moment that she snatched me up by my Songe Bob PJ’s and hoisted me effortlessly above her head. Unceremoniously tossing me through the kitchen door she bellowed “I said there’s a @#+&%€£ bear on the patio, stay in the house”!!! Wide eyed and breathing heavily she slammed the door and twisted the deadbolt.

Making a mental note, I pledged to never argue with an adrenaline fueled woman who’s teetering on the brink of a wild life inspired psychotic episode.

After some coaxing and a sedative, she explained that while I was happily rocking away in my old man chair, prattling along about the beauty of our park like setting, that she heard something “huff”. turning her head to look toward the patio she came nose to snout with a large sow black bear parading her four cubs across the field stone..

I’m not sure who scared who the most. The Sow exited in a black blur and the four cubs made for the tree line at the back of the yard. Like fur clad inchworms, they clawed their way up about six feet, then froze motionless in an unrehearsed National Geographic moment.

Ten minutes later momma bear returned, no doubt hoping to avoid the whirling banshee she’d ricocheted of off just minutes before. She Sniffed the air and cast a suspicious glance toward the still swaying rockers. Satisfied the howling menace was no longer a threat, she rearranged a deck chair, and rooted around in the pine straw before collecting her cubs who were now playing king of the hill on the retaining wall. Claiming victory they all sauntered off defiantly towards the Neihbor’s back yard.

I managed to coax Ms Revenge off of the ledge with a double Chardonnay and some Jiffy-Pop before clicking off her night light and tucking her into bed.

Mrs bear, judging by her prodigious noggin and ample girth around the rump, is a fair sized bear. No doubt growing fat on the unsecure trash bins of unsuspecting weekend tourist from Baltimore and DC, she has no qualms cruising the cabins looking for marshmallows, water Mellon rinds and half eaten Ballpark franks.
