I saved it from the recycle center a few years ago from an old scientist at work. He just wanted it to go to somewhere that might be able to use it.

More on the story ref: The barn.

I thought you would appreciate this considering your “Cook Shed” project. The dozer operator tasked with the demo, had already turned the structure into a life size game of pickup sticks before CB arrived to pick through the carcass. He salvaged what he could (safely) and managed to rescue a small section of the timber framed barn. It’s now enjoying a second life as a piece of living art in Ohio.

Last meanderings before turning south.

Bagged, tagged and stored. Spent the AM labeling and sorting. Dollar Store totes are racked and stacked awaiting my triumphal return to Nod.

Went rooting through the loft of the little cabin to find a suitable “lure”. Trolling CB with a GI cot, sleeping bag, goretex bivy cover and a flight suit in the AM. If I can get him to “raise on the bait” I’ll lock in 2-3 projects. It’s all in the presentation. I hate to waste the month of May while I’m off trimming lemon trees and giving foot massages.

Hoping CB will agree to finish up the bathroom and fireplace while OCB is tossing in a porch roof/facia/soffit. Can’t be too aggressive when setting the hook. These boys spook easy. You gotta let em run with it a little….

Repurposed a GI foot locker with plans for a second one. There’s still a cot in the loft that can be used for sleeping. Thinking about folding it up and ending that chapter of hunting camp lore. Although, I will admit, there’s nothing quite like descending the homemade hickory ladder at 0300 in the dark to conduct some pressing business outside.

I’m still keeping the lower half of the lil’ condo for emergency use and nostalgia. I reckon it now belongs to Charlie and the ages.

Two extra coats of Poly on the vanity top today.

About that 401k….


Toes in the sand moments. Sometimes, I think “we” get wrapped around the proverbial axles when it come to those seemingly overly important moments. Getting me off of the Meade Hall project was like pulling a pit bull off of a soup bone . Once I arrived, I put one toe in the sand and that sense of “must do now” evaporated.

It’ll be there when I get back. For now, there’s a fresh lime and a Corona with my name on it.

Maintaining forward momentum.


While I was collecting sand dollars and sharks teeth, CB knocked out the cabinet doors for the pantry. Waiting on the poly treatment before mounting. Pic of the cabinet for reference. I think he’s headed out later in the week to work on the bathroom. Good to have friends.

Keeping it eclectic: I have hickory bases that were purchased years ago. I think they’ll blend nicely with the new material. Going over my options for a counter top. Not critical yet. Just tossing the idea in the hopper. Laminate is the easy button with regard to the cost/effort ratio.

I’m thinking solid surface though.

Quartz? Big picture, I only need a small section and a couple of smaller pieces. The big ticket store has a pretty fair selection that won’t break the bank (I have bigger fish to fry). Regardless, I’ll let it simmer on the back burner for a little while longer before committing to a course of action.
