I hope this isn't a foolish thread on my part, but I have heard a million and one good things about running Seafoam through the engine and gas tank, etc. I have seen information about using Seafoam in various threads.

Would it be possible for you guys (girls too!) to add exactly how you used the Seafoam and what happened?

Maybe we could create a single thread here so all Seafoam users can get the info in one place.

BTW, I don't work for Seafoam...

I ran it through the engine via brake booster hose. No noticeable difference (truck was in good shape) but impressive smoke. Might try tranny at some point, after trying synthetics first, and will try on my 22RE, which is in need of tuning and other work.

I ran it and it clogged up my carborator, but it needed a rebuild anyways. Other than that there were no negative effects and maybe a little improvement in response.

Can Seafoam can tell you where you have exhaust/intake leaks with all the smoke?

There are two different products they make. One is for the transmission and the other for engine, gas tank, & carb.I have not used the transmission stuff but have heard good things.

Seafoam can help you find exhuast leaks. Using it through the PCV vacuum line above it and down the carb seems to help. Also there are tons of seafoams threads ..just search.

i used it by pouring a third of a can striaght down the throat of the carb.
did WONDERS!!!!
starts on the first try
idles like brand new!
pick up is better ( such as pick up CAN be)
best $4.95 i ever spent

I bought a couple of cans and ran 3/4 of one through my gas tank the first time. I put it in before filling though so that it would mix throughly. The last 1/4 and another 1/3 I put into my oil and eventually the rest through my carb.

I was skeptical but it definatley ran much better. Seemed smoother and started easier. After I rebuilt my carb it was better still, which was expected, but I ran some more through the engine after the rebuild.

Definately buy some!!

I'm curious: does anyone have a seafoam horror story? I know you run the risk of the fire dept being called because of the smoke (which doesn't bother me all that much) ... but has it damaged anyone's engine or tranny by dislodging too much carbon? Or has it done anything else that's funky, so that you wished you didn't run it in the first place?

It sounds like a good cure-all for a variety of issues, but I have to admit I'm still a little scared to run it. It's that whole "if it ain't broke... " thing...

I poured it down the carb and my engine exploded into to a fire ball.... Not... Just follow the instructions and it works great. I would do it in small increments if you think your engine is really dirty. Like a cup through PCV line and then drive for a week or so and then do some in the carb.

Sometime it can leave some residue on the spark plugs.

I would like to try this but not looking forward to the huge cloud of noxious smoke that envelopes the neighborhood.... Then again, that would be pretty sweet!!!

@&@&@&@& I ain't scared, I'd do it right outside the dorms here :D

In other news, I think I'm gonna have to give this stuff a try, now that I've been reading up on it. I'm curious to see if it can make my idle any smoother than it already is (though I think it's already about as smooth as an inline 6 is gonna get).

Hey cool, the filter's working now...

I poured it down the carb. I had to hold the idle up some to keep it from stalling. Seems to have smoothed the idle, but I think it may just be the placebo effect. I changed oil after a couple of days and it did seem a little darker than usual. I havent checked the plugs, but I may now that I read some other posts.

i'm super f'ing pissed off right now....damn the f'ing seafoam. i poured it down my carb and watched the block fill with smoke, and in my gas tank, now my truck won't idle without the choke completly on, it clogged up my fuel filter, put a new one in, no difference, thought it clogged my weber carb jets up ... blasted everything on the inside every little port with carb cleaner, no difference, took my plugs out and they were pitch black, cleaned them off, no difference... in my certian case seafoam can bite me because now i have a truck there barely even runs...

It would seem that if this stuff can be burned in your fuel or poured down the carb, that would mean if added to your motor oil or tanny fluid (auto) it would do nothing to those fluids but dilute them and or strip the lubercating properties of the original fluids....If your are reading one product does "it all" I think that the descriptive word for such products is "snake oil"

Been many articles in various mags about additives and fix-alls, the "Car Talk" guys just did another deal on additives, don't know if they covered Seafoam, they covered some that seem to have similiar claims..sounds like a good carb cleaner would be all most of you need or fresh fluids in your trannies etc.

Not trying to cause a stir...I've just found reg maintance and fresh fluids keep my rig running pretty good..unless its just worn out...then it's time to bite the bullet and FIX IT.

Well NoCal mentioned there are 2 different products they make one is for the engine and carb and the other for the transmission. Same name brand but 2 different properties. I would guess the transmission seafoam has properties to help the gear oil.

Bandy I think you need to replace your plugs. Just cleaning them will not help the idle, you need new ones. Did you follow the instructions on the can?

Can anyone else here help Bandy?
