As you can see in my work weekend thread I got the transmission in ..
I haven't been able to put it through its paces but so far the truck shifts better than it ever has
I think I have been dealing with a transmission issue since day 1.
I'm interested to see what the but dyno says when Ifloor it on the highway.
Right now it feels like it's holding better so maybe therewill be more power to the wheels .
Before when I put it to the floor it would red line before it shifted I always figured it was a supercharger thing but now I'm wondering if it was a transmissionthing .

I start to hyperventilate if I get near 3k rpms. I can't imagine going to the redline.

Congrats on the tranny. I look forward to seeing it on the trail when we go camping.

oh yeah and 2 hours my A**.

But if anyone else needs to do this I think I can do it a lot faster next time.

So a little update. No pics sorry..
Got my Raven Dual Battery System partially installed... (Some day I will finish up all the little bits)
Installed an new to me door lock actuator (its funny I was almost more exited to have a working door lock than I was to have a working transmission).

The A/C isn't working again and the cab is leaking more than Das Boot.

In other news we sold the Subaru last weekend (no more car payments woohooo!)
This means that we are an all Cruiser family it also means that I'm going all in on the 80.

I truly feel in the next year or two I will be an expert in all things 80..

Next on the list is the front end New rotors and seals at least; then I will finally be a true cruiser owner (or at leas no longer a cruiser virgin).

expect to see a few bits and pieces coming in the super poormans 100 thread too.

So; after nearly blowing up my battery on our last ride.

I decided it would be a good idea to go back through my setup and clean up all the wiring.
One forgets how dangerous things can be (atrophy of vigilance). A vehicle truly is a delicate and complicated system.
I also decided that I need to have matching batteris my diehard was dead and I thought I would get a new (matching) battery for the 80 and see If I could get the diehard replaced under warranty to put in the 100 (it all worked out well).

After about 3hrs of going back through everything and running some massive ground wires I am much more confident in the system.. I am really happy with it (the thing really is a work of art).
If anyone is thinking of going dual batteries I would be happy to offer some advice and a helping hand.

The batteries I bought were Exide XMCs.. They are a group 31 marine AGM with something like 925 CCA and 200 reserve minute capacity. .
They fit like a glove (it takes a little wiggling but you can get the to slide down very snug)
Amazon has them for $185 with free shipping.. Sears has them for 400+..

So far they seem great (super heavy).
We will see about longevity but at half the cost of a Odyssey I'm happy to give them a whirl.

I'll post up some picks soon.

The only thing I have left is to figure out how to get the washer bottle back in.
It interferes with the intake because of the S/C.

Front axle rebuild

Goin in..
I have been accumulating parts for this so long that I hope I haven'tfforgotten anything.

your driveway?
I might slide by and do some pointing.

And... Done....
Except on the drivers side I can't get the axles out far enough to put the clip back on.
I tried a bolt in the end. I yanked and hammer but no movement.

If I were a betting man... I bet the new brass bushing isn't in all the way thus causing the groove to not be exposed enough for the c-clip

I hope not.
I'm fairly sure that I did get the bushing flush (I remember checking it)

The adjustment nut?
No I just cracked it down.
That's what I'm hoping it is.. Might tear into it this afternoon and losen/tighten a few times..
I read to tighten it all the way (till you can't turn it any more)
A few times.

How is that amazon battery working? Electrical issues and a dead battery were waiting on me this morning. I have to go fuse shopping before heading to bham tonight.

I am taking back the advance battery. If I swap it for another advance battery that'll be the 3rd one since my 5+ year old Toyota battery died less than a year ago. And advance doesn't have anything as large as the yota battery I removed.

So far it's.. (they) are great..
The one that i blew up I had replaced though and its sitting in my garage...
I can give a heck of a deal on a brand new group 27 die hard marine.

Got the front end together... (i had left an old gasket on and put the new one over it)
So I'm no longer a cruiser Virgin.

I think I'm going to have to fire my mechanic.....
My front passenger wheel began to squeak on a trip I was taking to the in laws house; by the time I got there the squeak had turned into an all out howl. I pulled the drive shaft (hoping it was just a u joint) no go.
Pulled the drive flange and the squeak went away except when I hit a bump. Not sure what is going on but I'm going to have to pull that side back apart and check everything out.

wow.

hopefully the new owner in FL wont find out his busted ass $15k cruiser from california couldnt sell last year for 4k in alabama.
