You also can't discount how much suck a pair of older, stopped wearing, harder than steel bfg AT's can bring. Mine are terrible on the road now. Loud and might as well be wooden wagon wheels for small bumps.

I wouldn't know. The 35" BFG ATs I picked up off eBay in Montgomery still have nipples. Made in 2011.

That's why I think there are such varied reviews. They are great, apparently since I haven't experienced said greatness, until they harden and stop wearing.
Mine were manufactured ca. 2006 - I don't know exactly how many miles they have but I would put it in the ballpark of 70-80k. They have all but stopped wearing, I can't discern any noticeable wear in the past 20k miles or more.

I'm not in a hurry on that idea at all, it's on the two to three year radar.
In fact, If there is a time in the future when I can afford to do it I would probably buy a 40 to restore instead, but still curious. My transmission makes farting noises and goes forward when you try to reverse uphill under load. It's an awesome special feature for the 97 model year, but I would still prefer it to actually not make noise and go backwards.

No, I think that is a just a feature on the 2000 year model 100 series. thank goodness.
