Aren't you already looking at replacing a CV joint in one of those Izusus.
thats a wear item. no different than doing CVs on a 100. or a timing belt/water pump. 80 series front axle job. etc.

You're wheeling with the wrong people if you think a 40 or 60 or any other cruiser can out shine an 80. Notice the IronPig guys... They're all pretty much wheeling body less 80's now. They'll bring a handful if them to events..

did I ever say another cruiser is better than the 80? I said I wanted a 40... and that there was no good reason, that I just wanted it.

Yes. In your opinion. An 80 is uncomfortable. No? It's also your opinion that an 80 is not utilitarian. No? that means it's inferior in both directions. DUH.
The 100 beats it, in your opinion. The 40/60 beats it, in your opinion.

Yes. I'm using YOUR words against you.

Notice the nightly news. There's 80's all over the world being used.

He says he doesn't want to wheel, which I can respect, because I too am growing weary of bashing my 80 in off road parks. But I still want to be able to jump in it and go anywhere I wish with out much issue.

Skyline Alabama or the cove are perfect examples, as they aren't "wheeling" like what you would find in parks, but man you don't want to break out there. I have seen numerous vehicles (5+) just left in places like that because it is just too hard to get them out in time. Leave a truck in the woods for more than a couple of days and there won't be much left of it.

I think my 80 is uncomfortable because I dont like how I sit in Cloth seats. I dont know how many more tires I'll need to repeat that.... I liked the leather 80s, if mine was leather and didnt wreck my back I might not be selling it.

a 40/60 is more utilitarian, 80 is more refined. I never said that made one better than the other. thats a style preference. Do you like red, or blue? is one better than the other just because you prefer it?

If your goal was to wheel, and wheel hard the 80 is probably your best bet, 40 is too short. 60 has limited suspension travel
100 is IFS...
80 is pretty big, you could make the argument the 40 is better because its smaller, but thats probably the only thing you could stand on.

If I did win the lottery and If I did buy the 40 of my dream I would probably Have to buy a trailer to carry all my junk. That alone makes the 80 preferable. but since I have already admitted I dont need a live front end for my driving I would probably pick a 100.

I finally drove a tacoma, most disappointed driving experience I have ever had. There wasnt a single thing I could say I liked about it. my 80> new tacoma
but new tundra > than my 80... if catfish was 4x4 maybe we could have made a deal.

If catfish were 4xdig, I'd be giving you middel Fangers. Cause I'd use it as my offroad rig. Worst buying decision I've ever made to date.
I love the 5.7. Nothing compares to that engine.

I speak from experience - buying a 2wd version of anything that has an option for 4wd is always, always a bad decision. Too easy to get wrapped up in all the folks(parents, close and distant relatives mainly) saying:

"you don't need 4wd for that"

"You're never going to take that off road"

"that's a waste of money, 2wd will do everything you want it to"

"your gas mileage will be better with 2wd"

"4wd is just something else to break"

All great points until you

A) Get stuck on level ground in wet pinestraw

B) Try to tow a boat up a wet boat ramp

C) Ever try to sell the thing

D) Ever try to sell the thing

All of the above

I have considered keeping it and putting a solid axle under it. No homo.

Remind me to thump you in the nuts at the next meeting.

Seriously though calling your 80 a uncomfortable luxury car that is one of the most capable vehicles on the road but not utilitarian is like constantly bitching about the government while working for a government agency probably on a government owned computer.... oh wait..

yea, because 60s and 80s are the same thing.

and working for a city park and rec and complaining about police brutality, endless wars, high taxes, hostile federal government etc is all the same thing too.
