how does the w/s washer switch work for washers---not schematically i am ok on that just physically seems it pulls out to 2 stops ----do you turn it for washers?

To the left, IIRC.:hmm:

thanks

Yes I thought so from the schematic but it didnt feel right---Off to find my wires now thanks;);)

fj62 steering column...

i just got tired of trying to keep all those switches running and put in a fj62 steering column which has different fuse panel and relays, but all those functions are on the tree...:bounce:

Jeees,

Thanks Coolerman. Didnt know it had one. Ill check it out tonight. Seems like mine is missing the third copper strip too. Weird. What did you use to replace it?

Thanks,

Flash

Mine was not missing just broken in two. One could be fabbed from thin sheet copper, but your best bet would be to find someone with a burned out motor willing to sell you just the switch.

shot the wires and jumpered the motor

Tonight I went out and fooled around with the wipers a bit.

I shot the wires from the connector back to the switch and from the motor connector to the park switch etc. Once I verified the wiring I jumpered power and ground to the motor and worked them in hi and lo! so good to go, the motor is ALIVE! Oh, and I did have to run a jumper to ground the w/s frame, it was open! Nice tip there. ;)

My windshield side connector was brittle and had crumbled so I was going from wires on that side, the motor side connector needs replaced to but is mostly intact

I suppose I could have just connected up and seen what happened but I enjoy shooting wires anyway and doing that is a good hedge against a PO swapping wires round the wrong way or bad repairs

I also found the power wire for the washer motor---I got a new SOR kit on the toolbox. Thats what started the post--mine feels spring loaded to center and when I held it to the right I got power at the wire.

while I was at it I found my reverse light switch wires up front and that shot good to the back when I jumpered them, just got to check the sw and hook it up now. I also found a wire that separates out from the main rear lights harness on a long lead and is always hot--I'll have to see what that is about! :hmm: I think it might be for the lic plate light but shouldn't be always hot ---unless I did something dumb like leave the lights in park maybe, anyway I can check the schematic for the wire color tomorrow

If I get time I'll probably do a tech on how to shoot the wires and also how I jumpered the motor to make it work. Coolerman you got the science on your site, for sure! But I think It might be fun to show how to :hillbilly::hillbilly::hillbilly: troubleshoot it with a $2 meter and a couple bits of wire also.:lol:

Well, probably a 50 cent meter now that it is used:D

Coolerman, In the Fubared pic it looks like there are 2 copper flats. In the repaired one there looks like 3. What am I missing here?

Thanks,

Flash

:D Not a thing! I fixed the pic just now to show where it should have been. The broken piece is not in the picture. (The next pic shows it repaired so you can tell where it goes.)

It broke right where it is sandwiched between the insulators. I soldered it back together. It probably wont hold for long under use.

The switch GROUNDS the motor so you should NOT have power on that wire ever.
Look at pic. What's circled in yellow is attached to the wire going to the wiper motor. It is isolated from ground. The part circled in red is attached to the rotating knob which is grounded through the body when you mount the switch to the dash. When you turn the knob to the right the rotating contact on the knob contacts the plate connected to the wire going to the wiper motor and completes the connection. The other wire going to the washer motor is always hot.

I got to thinking right before I posted this: It might be possible to read +12V on the plate due to voltage appearing across the motor/brushes. Check that, That would make a good tech note. ;)

Thanks Cooler

Thanks for clarifying that Cooler, would want to confuse anyone

Yes I saw it in the schematic ---I actually meant I found the power wire for the washer and continuity for the wire to the switch---I really need to stop posting at midnight on a worknight:), Typical arrangement. If I had looked at that rotating part before I wouldnt have asked how the switch worked either, but I was able to get my question answered while I was out running the Daughter around on her teenage social tour of the adjoining neighborhoods! :)

So far I have all the lights worked out cept the lic plate light. The little courtesy light switch and wires are good cept I dont have the light! I have a new utility light receptacle to install, The horn works, and now I have the wipers and washers sorted but I need a connector to install for the motor, and the heater fan works.

I am just rigging the stuff up for now to functionally check it until I decide if I am gonna try and paint before I ship it and worry bout the paint over there. I think I might just go with the sure thing and rattle can it this weekend so I can get all the electrcials hooked up and at least drive here a couple times before it ships to the UK. Watch out Land Rovers!:steer:
