The Dreaded P2714 Code.. What to Do? (8 Viewers)

At a bit of a loss here. Read through dozens of P2714 forums for both LC100s and other Toyota 4x4s in general.

Recently had this code pop up after a loss of power and going into limp mode. After a restart, the car no longer has the issue, and after taking it to a speciality shop, they ran the car for another 50 miles without any issues. Shop cleared the codes to see if it would pop back up, and still nothing.

After a good amount of reading, I am seeing this ultimately ends up in a full transmission replacement more often than not. I am debating on the steps to take from here.

Should I begin with trans fluid flush and go from there to see if it comes back? If it does, would solenoid be next?

Any advice on the P2714 code would be very appreciated!

Find a shop who's capable of reading the codes? It's not the truck's fault the shop who has it can't do that.

A whole trans can be purchased and swapped in for about 2 grand, less if you do it yourself. Use that as a worse case scenario and go from there.

These guys specialize in rigs like this and even list LCs on their website. They’ve done good work for me before, but a bit disappointed this time for sure. From my understanding, they’re saying there’s no codes showing up right now even though I checked the codes before I had it towed.

$2000 for a transmission replacement and install is a lot better of a number than the 6-8k I’m seeing on other threads. Any advice on where to buy one if needed?

Right now, I’m probably going to have them flush and put in new trans fluid. Run it until I have problems again and go from there.

You'll need techstream to properly read the transmission codes. A standard OBD reader will not pull them. Had the same issue with mine until I put TS on my own laptop and started seeing actual codes.

Yes I would probably suggest a flush first. It is the generally accepted first step in any trans work on mud. But, even before that, I'd get the truck hooked up to a computer with techstream and check the codes through that. It's not unlikely you'll find some data that the shop wouldn't have been able to find without techstream.

I've just read through nearly all of the thread, what a gold mine of info. I'm glad it worked out in the end for you, but man I pray I don't have the journey that you endured. I'll update this thread with any info from the shop and eventually when I get it back, the info I find.
