Just what I wanted to know......Would this have happened if it where a synthetic line? If no, then I will be upgrading so this does not happen again. At least this thing held together and got me up the hill. It broke on the first 50' pull. Then lasted for 2 more 50' pulls.

Duratracs are not good in the mud. period. Even my lady was like "you need some new tires, these things suck in the mud"

I would tend to say no. Since rope will compress if forced.
And your lady is a very smart woman.

Sooooo today I went on a family "ride" in the woods local to me. Made it onto a sweet logging trail that has not been used. My 2 1/2 yr old son is good at eggin me on and my lady really likes wheeling/exploring also. Long story shorter.....We made it DEEP in the woods until I came to a dead end. No big deal so I turn around and try to go up the hill I just came down. No dice with the Duratrak tires. TERRIBLE in mud. I was stuck and 3x locked beating on it. So I used the winch. Was sliding sideways most of the time. Was all good then all the steel cable spooled up on one side of the winch and busted out the two bars (cage) that connects the two sides of the winch. I continued to use it getting all the way up the hill and it worked fine. We made it out. Good times.

So do you guys think I can just keep using it like this? Is it safe? I can't see any way to fix it since it's a cast iron casing. Stinks that I just bought it in the spring from IPOR.

This is one example of why I was talking about synthetic line. I did the exact same thing last year, on the very first pull as well. It's hard to see it happening from afar, tucked behind the ARB. The steel cable really needs to be exercised and monitored while winching in. I don't think it has anything to do with poor winch manufacturing. FWIW right or wrong, I have used mine a dozen times with zero issues so far. Synthetic for next year.

I've come to the realization that the most line I'll ever buy again is 80ft. The longer lengths seem like a good idea but up here we have trees everywhere and the shorter length will mean a greater pulling force since you will always be on a smaller wrap than with the longer line.

So with a shorter line and greater pulling strength you can probably drop down to a 10/9.5 k winch and safe some cash and weight.

That makes sense. Never really thought of it that way

That's great! RuffStuff is a top notch company.

RuffStuff is looking for which events they should hit next year. Tell him he should come to FG. After all Dan 8s a cruiser guy. https://m.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=600561323316472&id=319699124736028&set=a.320428714663069.73253.319699124736028&__user=1655627034

If any of you guys are on Facebook or place orders with ruff stuff put the bug in dan's ear.
Would be nice to get sponsors here and show them what we're all about and what a great event they contribute to!

Is ruff stuff good to deal with? Ill be ordering some stuff and if they are cool ill order through them.

I need hangers and shackles and junk like that

I really wish my truck would sell so I could buy another cruiser. It isnt happening though. I had talked to a guy that was willing trade me for his cruiser in utah but i would hav done all the leg work to get out there. That gets expensive.

They are awesome to deal with! Great cus service. Very impressed with how they do business. You can't go wrong!
