I sincerely hope all of YT and all of my Mud friends are well and will continue to be so.

The Daily Chat Thread is a good place to reunite and socialize since we are are so restricted otherwise. I hope to see more involvement from all of you since what else do we have going on? I've been away so long many of you don't even know me even though you've probably heard the legends from your elders ...... LOL.

My life interests for the last 5 years have taken me into a different direction but this year I've decided to get back into being engaged with YT and off roading in general.

I recently resurrected my FJCruiser, it has been basically idle for the last 3 years with only less than 2500 miles during that time. I'm torn between selling it, keeping it as is, or just going overboard with serious mods.

I just bought a pretty much stock and fairly clean 1998 3rd Gen 4Runner 3.4 V-6 automatic. It has the 4.30 gears and rear locker and had 4 very bald tires with the cord showing which had to go immediately. I say pretty much stock because my 33" 285/85R16 BFG MT's on FJ 16" wheels fill the wheel wells nicely but don't rub which the forums say won't fit so maybe those newish looking springs and shocks are a lift kit? The T4R is a viable replacement for Minnie since there's more room than Minnie's standard cab for me and Saint Pam and the dogs. It might also replace the FJC, it is actually narrower with the same room inside. Did I mention I have a dual case setup for it and that it gets 20 MPG? - LOL.

I have some plans for the 4Runner and am looking for Land Cruiser 8 wrap rear coils. My research shows these give some rear lift and articulation. Does anyone have a pair of takeoffs they want to donate? I'll also be upgrading to Tundra front brakes pretty soon since the brakes are soft to begin with so why not add more stopping power than stock while doing it.

Evil grandpa you are alive I’ll have to warn the kids they are not safe lol, seriously good to hear from you and that your well nice looking runner reach out to chip he still has his stock springs we pulled out of his 80 that he keeps tripping over in his garage might cost you a 12 pack

Hello Larry,
Good to see you get back to posting again. I know I have met you many years back around the campfire at FG. You must be really bored and desperate for attention Lol .
Nice score on the 4Runner. Looks like a good base for a build.
The forum has been a little quiet these days. Hopefully we can all come together with all that is going in the world. I would love to encourage more to post up there builds.
We are all in this together so our Toyota’s are a good way to keep our separation sanity.

Thanks for all the responses & support guys.

I am a more than a bit bored with the stupidness going on and very glad I'm in NH away from most of the worst of it although Wyoming is starting to sound attractive.

Early on in my purchase I learned that front FJ80 8 wrap coils were a cheap rear lift for the 3rd Gen T4R (notice how I already have the abbreviation down pat). I figured I needed to go up 3" to fit 33's based on the posts on forums. As I mentiond before my 255/85R16 KM2's off the FJ fit fine and they are basically 10x33's. I've been wheeling quite a bit without any rubbing. For some reason I get a burp from the front passenger side when pulling into my driveway - go figure. I think the truck might have a short body lift since its missing pucks on the mid-body mounts on either side. Next priority is timing belt change since both the fan belts are frayed so timing belt is probably overdue. I also need to have a tailpipe fabbed up to get my NH Inspection STICKAH ;)

Cool truck Will. I'll keep you in mind!

How I spent my Covidcation. I tore the F engine out as it was smoking. Turned out that the rings were bad.

I figure I have 2 months to pull everything apart and put it back together. I got a sweet deal on a 2F from Wally. Just started the reassembly process. I'm stalled waiting on parts that are taking very long with shipping due to Covid. Going to put the old valve cover on to make it look like an F still to match the 1969 style.

Keeping the 3 speed for now. Too much to bite off for now without doing the 4 speed swap. That'll be next winter along with a new wiring harness.

Replacing an engine has been on my bucket list and I'm learning a lot as I go. Should be sweet when I'm done!

First Pic- Old F engine
Last Pic is the 2F replacement. Waiting on a water pump, clutch kit and a few seals.

LX450 - Is $3750 too much?

Sitting on 285/75R17's which are almost 33".
Lockers won't engage.
Good frame that has been fluid filmed and oiled over the years.
Clicking Birfs.
Idles too high after driving - maybe sticking throttle cable?
Car phone :)
Minor damage/rust spots on body with amateur repairs.
Noisy valve train at initial startup but quiets down quickly.
233K but it runs and shifts fine, 4WD works high and lo.

Thoughts?
