After reading about the Coves on here, we decided to check 'em out for some swimming fun yesterday. Our swimming adventure quickly turned into an impromptu wheeling adventure.

I was alternately bumming that we didn't have the Cruiser, and grateful. The Tahoe now has some nice pinstripes. (Banked, sandy) ATV trails just weren't meant for such a fatass truck I guess. But it was *interesting*.

We probably bushwhacked through the chapparral in the wash for an hour. Then we were up on a ridge, along a fenceline, and could see the lake way off in the distance.

We did eventually find the water (I think it was Hidden Cove), and splashed around and had some beer, before wandering along every ridge North of Saguaro Lake, trying to find out way out. Climbed and descended some pretty steep hills. The way back was a touch easier, but still mostly involved a rocky ridge road. I think we took the loooooong way.

I think the key bit of info we were missing, was that when you go through the gate, to go straight *across* the wash, and up the hill, rather than turning along left and going through the wash. But any other tips are welcome. However, I don't think we'll be visiting the Coves again for a very very long time.

second Kevin - I think we finally figured them out, though

when you next go, check whether we are in town, might join you ;)

I think at last count there is about half a billion "roads" back there, making it hard to give good directions! :D

Yeah after the second left it's left, left, right, up, left, 3rd wye in from the right (don't squint) left, down, up, look for the .0000000002 cent part that broke and stranded the new $24,999 Rubicon   :D :D ) and you're almost there. Oh and there's some sand to look out for. Clear? Good.

Also should be easy to find the entrance to the coves. Just look for the bevey of Virtual Jeep Club members "talkin bout wheelin"...

 I've been going there for 8-9 years and always go up the wash to the left. Give a shout, its a close place to go wheeling, I'd be glad to show you the way around. Last time out I saw a bald eagle (in March).

I might be going to the lake this weekend. I have been in the back but never to the lake. Can anyone give directions to the lake. When you first go in the gate you can follow the wash for a while. Then it hits the hill with roads going all directions. Is that the hill you are talking about, I thought that was about a mile or so. Or is there another hill right at the gate. Either way all one has to do is drive south and you eventually will hit the lake.

Din't LCPhil and Tools prove that GPS is useless up on Mingus?
I always thought it was for people who can't follow directions. :flipoff2:

You will probably find this hard to believe, but one of them GPS things saved our bacon today!:hillbilly: When your told to go 6 miles and it's not there, then you punch in them silly numbers into the unit and it tells you to go back 2.4 miles, the 6 mile thing is a bit off!:D
