We decided to build something for base camping, so with a long weekend or 4 day weekend each month, we can hook it up and go camp, without having to pack the car/unpack the car each time.

Julie has trouble with steps, thanks to some medical issues, so after a bit of brainstorming, and measuring, we decided a 2wd model from Outback campers was around 8" shorter in the body, so closer to the ground, and easier for Julie to get into.

Rear fold set up will work best, for tailgate and step access.

We have the tow vehicle set for camping out of, with water tank, and fridge/storage, so the plan isnt to get everything in the trailer, but have it capable enough to get to good spots where 4wd is required, and compliment the vehicle set up.

Trailer is 6'6" by 5'6" wide, and our second hand one has had the drawer bar extended already [pics below are from the manufacturers website] The name comes from Julie thinking the shape is like a castle, when put up. For those who have seen the classis Aus movie of the same name, the tent is now the castle, the trailer is the pool room :)

Just need some jousting sticks now 8)

We picked up a good second hand 05 model, and they run 14" rims standard, so first mods will be 35's to match what the car runs, with some new bigger fenders, to suit, a firewood rack on the drawer bar, a proper landing and hand rail on the tailgate, for Julie to use, and air bag suspension, so it can be dropped to bump stops when pulled up, to make easy access, and raised when ready to go, with 4" difference between the 2.

We will sandblast it, paint it to match the tow car,

fit a battery, compressor, led lighting etc, over the next few weeks.

If socal ever come back to me, we are looking at a teardrop as a longer term solution.

Some pics of this fill in camper tent, and our mods as we make the wheel fit, first, coming next few days.

Sounds like a fun build....I like those trailer tents, especially the ones where you can add pcs. to make it as big or small as you want.

Nice FJC too...

Not to be a wet blanket, but with larger tires won't the tent need risers placed under it so as to not put it in undue stress? I ask this because with our TrailBlazer we have that problem with the 33's and 1"-2" frame lift under it. Seams in the canvas around the base of the floor are starting to tear out.

As per description, it will be on airbags, so I can drop it to the stops when parked, which is perfect height for the tent to ground measurement for the canvas. :D

Just been on its first test run, will start build pics his week.
