These prices will most likely be around until the next crash in the economy or stocks take off again. Right now the classic vehicle market is hot and collectors have been buying up FJ40 series. It will not last forever, just like the muscle car market has been up and down in the last decade.

I'm curious if that truck would have fetched the same price with sbc. It was no where near stock. My '70 fj40 has 2f and 4 speed so it does give me some confidence that I'll make a few $ if I ever have to sell

I would say in general SBC will hurt the price of restored 40's at least. Exceptions being Icons but they aren't really restored vehicles.

That thing is indeed clean but no where near stock, as mentioned.

One question I have is regarding the tub. IIRC, pre-74 models had the 4Wheel Drive and toyota emblems on the driver's side. My 78 and any other one I have ever seen has the emblems on the passenger side. The other thing I noticed is the barn doors. This must also be an add-on or aftermarket as there is only one set of hinges below the original hard top.
