Well my days of cruirdom are ending but I wanted to thank everyone for your help getting this cruiser into good working order. Its in the For Sale section with pics for 2800 if your interested. https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=84955 We are moving so its days as the family cruiser are at an end because now we have a 20 mile one way trip to town instead of a one block trip to the store. Anyway all the input has really helped. I'm very impressed with this board and the people who make it up.

So long, DJ, and thanks for all the fish!

Tell whomever buys it about us; hopefully even the later year folk will agree that we can never have too many 3FE'ers around here.

Cheers,

Curtis

DJ, a 20 mile trip doesn't seem enough to warrant selling a good reliable vehicle regardless of the MPG. Repair costs can easily offset any savings.

I just went through a cost analysis on my cruiser as I drive it for work and spend in excess of $500.00 a month in fuel.

I just purchased a 1996 5 speed 4 cylinder Camry that if it is as reliable as the LC for the next 2 years I can break even at a purchase price of $2600.00.

I personally think this is a gamble that I have a 50/50 chance of making.

I also feel that if you factor in personal safety to you and others the LC wins hands down and the obvious winner.

That said, since I'm most likely to be the only occupant in the Camry and I need to move the LC into a more recreational capacity for me and my son I've decided to buy the Camry.

So, I can stick around then?

Good points landtank.

Yea I've been weighing all the options. It has been great but it really isn't a road trip family rig either. Its tough to pick up and head to Boise, Salt Lake or Vegas at 60 MPH with a full load of kids and stuff and get 10 to 13 mpg. When I can buy a minivan drive 75 and get 20MPG. Neither one will tow a trailer at speed. I already have a off road specialty rig and a driver for me that runs 37's does 70 MPH no problem and gets 13 mpg doing it. I also picked up a rice burner for my commute to work and back that gets over 40 MPG. The only thing this Cruiser gives me that I don't have is a head to hills with all 6 of us rig. But then towing the travel trailer is out. So I'll probably either get another one of these souped up or a Suburban. Its just a tweener vehicle for me I don't need. Sure is a beast off road though. Good in town now that i've tuned it and given it some love. I actually moves down the highway quite well now. But for what I would use it for its either too underpowered to tow or too thirsty to be a commuter.

I say, hang on to it if you can afford to! Buy something different to communte with and keep it in the garage for another day. The $2800 is a pretty small price to pay for a cruiser that you know, and trust, and will build up someday.

Good luck either way!
