I just removed my turbo and exhaust manifold. And if anyone has been following my threads, I have been looking for an easy for for a cracked exhaust manifold, or even a new manifold to replace mine.
You see, I bought my BJ74 in December, knowing it needed two things: a new exhaust manifold - exhaust spews out of the manifold under load and fills the engine bay will diesel soot, not to mention the cab; and also new suspension - OME on the way
.
But what I was not aware of was the price of these manifolds - $350 - $750 depending where and when you want them.
So I was doing some wishful thinking and hoped that it wasn't a cracked manifold when I noticed two exhaust manifold bolts missing. I finally tackled it yesterday and I had to drill out a broken bolt, and replace two bolts. I thought that this would fix my spewing problems, but no to avail.
So if all the bolts are snug, I only have two options left - a blown gasket or a blown manifold. And to my surprise and unmeasurable relief it was a BLOWN GASKET. FEWF!!!! $30 in parts, $100 in tools, a bunch of cuss words and two bloody knuckles and I have found my problem. I hope.
I purchased my new gasket today and I will put it in on saturday and put the truck back together too, and yes, I will keep you all posted.
I love, love, love my BJ74. I can't wait to drive it on saturday without the constant 'ft ft ft ft ft' sound of exhaust leaking through the manifold gasket.
Thanks for listening.
Tanner
PS. Im a student, so saving $1100 in parts in labour (doing the labour myself, and not having to buy a new manifold) is equivalent to about 2.5 months worth of paychecks = HUGE DEAL.
