temperature switch

my temperature switch doesn't work. Is it an electrical switch, or is it a cable like in the 60's? i can move it from cold to hot under the hood, but the switch (slider inside the vehicle) doesn't work. could it be a relay?? how can i test it?

Year of vehicle?

Are you talking about the slider from cold to hot in the climate control system? If so... those are a cable that runs up to a ball valve at the firewall in the engine compartment.

I've had it fail two ways for me. One, the cable simply fell off the valve control. The other, a misplaced hose clamp on the heater line was blocking the cable motion. Both were probably my own fault.
