It's a 93 with 120k on it.

Looking for someone with an infrared thermometer to check their engine temp. Specifically the temp with the beam pointed at the timing marks with engine at operating temperature... mine measured 260+.

Hoping that it isnt abnormal. Seems high to me but my 4runner measured about the same. :dunno:

Thanks in advance.

depends on the emissivity setting you used!

Lars with engine temps at 260+ what is your water temp running at?

Nobody has an infrared temp gun?

Just need a ballpark figure is all.

ballpark -if that- is what you gonna get if you don't know the emissivity, told ya already! :)

I doubt emmisivity setting is going to show more than a 5-10 degree difference.... if that.

I'll try to remember to get one tomorrow, IIRC the timing marks are close to or part of the oil pump cover and should be close to oil temp, if you are getting part of the belt in view of the sensor it may be warmer especially if there is any slip.

from what I have seen different materials that should be the same temperature can make a 15° difference, a few days ago I tried getting water outlet readings, put some black spray paint on it and reading varied widely both on and off the paint and where in the paint spot I aimed making the readings useless.

get a gun with a setting that can vary from 0 to 1 and see if it doesn't make any difference...

Some of the cheap ones are set for only 1 or 2 fixed values, like 0.90 or 0.95 on the assumption that this is a fairly common value... well....

Now, if you have a 2 color gun, then you only have to worry about how the emissivity changes with temperature...

anyway... :)
