Anyone have a press that I could use to press some bearings? Should take long.

None here sorry :frown: I do need to add one to the shop though.

Yep but is down till Monday or Tuesday waiting on a seal:mad:

I have a press but nothing else normally used to remove the bearings. If you have the other items come on by we could try to get it done.

No, I won't have anything besides the carrier and the bearings. I think I am going to be able to use one in the maintenance shop at work. If not I will get back on here again. Cajun Offroad is the only place out of the ones I called that could do it but they said it would be 2 hrs of work at $70 per hour.

what bearings are ya`wantin to press?

I haven't tore into it yet but I am pretty sure it is the differential bearings. The ones that sit under the bearing caps in the diff.

well then don`t need a press for those just a dial mic to set te lash.

I thought those were pressed on.

For the carrier bearings you will need a good press to make it easy. You can fight pulling them off with a puller but the press is easier. I think Paul misread it. If you can rent one of those bearing seperators it'll help with getting them off easier too.

Get you one of these from harbor freight

and like this with puller or press to remove. Use some oil around the race when you press them back on to make it go easier.

No worries I knew you misread it. Stay cool out there it sure is warming up.

Thanks guys. I will try to get it to a press next week. I have to drive it one more time how it is because my wife needs the car Monday. I hope it will be alright. Out of 3 vehicles, only the car is really drivable and she has to take it to the doctor.

Ok guys, I can't even get my bearing caps off without a vice. I'm SOL and it looks like I am going to have to take it to a shop to have them do it. Right now I'm pretty stressed about it because the 4Runner is my daily driver as well. On top of all of that, I not getting to go offshore right now so my money is drying up.

Does anyone have a shop with a vice that I could borrow this weekend?

Does anyone have a shop with a vice that I could borrow this weekend?[/QUOT E]as stated before ya gona need a bearing puller to remove the cones press to install cones then need dial mic to set back lash of the R&P to as close to .006 as possible.

ps am assuming you are just changing the carrier bearings and not the pinion bearings if changing all will need to set depth of pinion as well ya be doing the axle bearings/ seals?o-rings?

You should be able to put the 3rd on a bench and tap the bearing caps off. Make you a cheap holder out of some scrap 2x4's so it don't roll around on you. I won't be home this weekend but you can borrow my vice. Its loose right now just let me know.

Give a call or P.M. me your number I can find you a vice and a press this weekend if needed for your third member.

We're gonna have to come up with a club member of the year award for you  You're a good man I'm glad you picked the Toyota side of the fence even if its was your second choice

As of right now I can't tell which bearing is giving me trouble. It only seems to make noise at 15mph + and without being able to get the bearing caps off, I can't isolate the cause. I will get a hold of one of you guys when I get some time. I appreciate the help.
