Ah ok, I was thinking they were superlift, since the shocks are labelled that way. I think I will try to pull a leaf for cheapness' sake.

how do you adjust the tbars on the ifs trucks, i know where the bolt and nut are but not sure how it works.

do you loosen the nut or the bolt?

If I remember right you tighten them to increase lift. I didn't get much adjustment on my 86 so I replaced them with the Downey 26mm bars and it worked out fine. Make sure when you do it the front tires are off the ground. When you are cranking the bolt its actually turning the bars so having the wheels off the ground doesn't put a bind on them. :)

mine are cranked up already and i was going to let them back down to see if i could soften the ride a little, my dad is going to make me some balljoint spacers at the machine shop to get the 1.5 or so of lift back.

if you notice in pics of my truck the front is about 1.5 higher than the back, so im going to order some shackles also to even it out.

Gotcha :)

so i should loosen the nut on top then loosen the bolt on bottom and how much i loosen the nut determines how much i can go down or uncrank them?

You got it. :)

sweet!! thats easy i might do that tonight while the game is on!

I'll probably be home next week, and I want to try to get my suspension sorted out. I'm going to pull all 4 shocks and ride around and see how the springs feel. If I do need to pull a leaf, can I get bushings in Lafayette, or do I have to order them?

I think I'm going to do the F-250 shock towers in the front. Has anyone done this? It sounds pretty simple.

Not done it but you're right... ton of information on Ford towers.

me

I'm running Ford shock towers on the front of my pick up, not a FJ 40 but they were easy to position like I wanted. They were easy to weld in place .

Sweet, thanks for the pic. That's what I am doing.

Help steering broblem

Hello out there I lost steering in my FJ40 and I have disconnected the center arm bracket assmebly and there doesn't seem to be a problem there. Now I'm at the pitman arm and I am not able to move it by hand is that normal? Thanks for the help.

FZJ-80

There is an area of road construction by my house. The road drops 8 inches and then there is a stop sign about 100 feet in front of the drop off. When I go over the drop off I am applying the breaks at the same time. My break pedal moves up and down real fast like the ABS is freaking out. Any ideas or is this just normal. Other than that the breaks always work like normal. I wish the truck was a manual transmission so I wouldn't even have to use the brakes that much and I just prefer manual transmissions. I do use the second to first gear mode most of the time to slow down. I hear these rotors are in a bind with the weight of the 80.

Can't say I ever tried to know if you can or not. When you say you lost your steering does that mean when you turn the steering wheel the gear box does not move. If thats the case I'd think the steering splines are stripped where the steering wheel shaft meets the gear box. Let us know what you find so I can save it on the harddrive.

I would think its normal our trailblazer did the same thing if braking while going over a bump you would feel the brake pedal go soft than hard or quiver from the ABS. It never did it any other time.

Thanks Larry. That is funny about the Trail Blazer, my wife had one too and it did the same thing as well.

let me start by saying "I AM NOT PLANNING TO DO THIS"

ok heres the question: what controls which way the rear tires turn on a 4 wheel steering vehicle. you know how if you turn hard the rears turn opposite of the front to help you turn fast and if you turn just a little they turn the same so you can move over better. what controls this?

However, most ones I've seen are hydraulic steering controled by a lever w/in the cab to move the rear tires whichever way you want them to and to the degree that you want them to.

(I still think you should do it :D)

X2

I have drove a Chevy truck with this (not mine, only yotas for me). I think it was an 04 with 8 foot bed. I really didn't see all that much difference and the truck had like 12,000 miles and it was leaking hydraulic fluid from the rams already. It was the last year they made that system for chevy trucks....so say my boss who owns a dealership, so don't quote me on that....he has been wrong in the past.

Oh and it wasn't a lever control. It was a button.
