Haha, speaking of putting faces with screen names... I know the name Chaka and have seen your posts. I met Dave this weekend at the Tech Day. But it was only with this post that I realized you're the same person. And that was even after you posted earlier in this thread about filming the tech day.

Kurt from Cruiser Outfitters called today, he said that we could have used those smaller rear axle bearings and seals that were for the '71 model year on those later model axle shafts. He said that if you use the smaller width bearings, that you need to use the bigger axle seal and vice versa.

I'm glad we used the bigger bearings just because they look more stout. However, this is good to know for the future.

Front Output bearing

I finally got around to pulling the front output cone.

The front driveshaft was wiggling up and down, so we all suspected a bearing. Well, it was a shredded needle bearing. See the pictures.

The front output bearing at the tip of the cone seems fine...it was only wiggling because the shaft did not have a solid connection to the TCase.

So, are these needle bearings readily available just like the other, bigger bearings?

I was able to remove the vacuum shift actuator in order to remove the cone.
