hEY Herb, have you been updating your 'plan of attack' document, send us all a copy on the CLCC list serve. Look forward to reading it.

BTW, for those who were not at the last meeting, we are trying to get our tech days super organized by creating a document of step by step list of tasks at hand for a given tech day, including list of potential pitfalls, needed tools, back up tools, etc... and creating a discussion at the same time!

We hope to keep these on file, or even provide them to other clubs and cruiser heads.

So far it looks like it is working.

Hey H20...no I have not yet. I was waiting to see what you thought of what I already posted on mud. I spoke for a bit with John Smith about it and we thought it best to write up in detail what we did rather than what we think we are going to do.

I have the list of parts and the overall plan of attack already up on this thread. Will this suffice? If not, I'll try to put something together this weekend about a plan of attack. The only thing is that, having not done this job before, I'm not sure what the plan of attack will be....

If you did want something, I'd assume that you'd want it in a word document or something else that is easily modified and printed up.

Just let me know....

Doug

Yeah, Word, (or save it as a RTF) would be good. I am testing this for several reasons.

1. this will serve as a learning tool for you and other members.

2. we will catch mistakes, problem areas, etc... before the tech day

3. This will serve as a guide to all those attending, on the day of. members can print out and take notes.

4. When all is said and done, after the tech day, all we need to do is edit the document as opposed to typing the whole thing up. (probably would not happen).

Take your best stab at it :)

Will do. I'll get something together this weekend.

Lets hope for good weather too!

Is your 40 in a garage, carport, or out in the open? I should have asked this question a long time ago.

If it is outside and the weather is questionable I can bring an EZUP and tarp to keep us dry.

The truck is in the garage....so we are good to go.

Dumb Question #47:
Will we be removing the rear brake backing plates in order to remove the axles and get to the rear axle bearings? I looked at the FSM and it appears that we don't have to. If we do, I'll have to get more brake fluid as we'll be disconnecting brake lines and bleeding the brakes too.

Great. Thanks John.

BTW, I sent a draft "plan of attack" to the listserv. I welcome edits and suggestions.

Hey guys....I posted the "plan of attack" document to the list serve. I haven't gotten any feedback yet. You all must have Swap Meet on your minds!

Update!

Just got off the phone with OTC/SPX and the rear wheel bearing puller is not available until May 25 now! Looks like we will be using the welder to remove the rear wheel bearings.

Does anyone have a larger verison of a "inside out" bearing puller like those used to remove the pilot bearing, but much larger in size?

Vato Zone may rent them. I rented a pilot bearing puller from them and it came with all kinds of attachments (mostly chrome and neon stuff).

I'm bringing the slap hammer. If the hook fits behind the bearing, there's a chance it can be coerced out.

I can call around in search of a suitable bearing puller. Just need to know the specs I'm looking for.....

TTT - any luck finding a bearing puller?

welder and what not

Did we get the SST? We are still on for Sat right? Herb, can you send out a reminder email?

Let me know if i am still bringing the stick welder. i assume I would not have to bring tig stuff?

Yep, we're still on. I'll send the reminder email.
Did NOT get the SST....so bring the welder!
