I feel like I finally understand the front axle and disc brakes - now onto the master cylinder - gotta get these things working!! Can anyone walk me through my choices or help me understand the components and why I need what I need? I really have trouble picking through all the info in the search.

Currently I've got a single chamber master cylinder ('71) - no booster that I know of- can I run this or do I need to upgrade to a dual chamber MC and if so what kind would be best? I'm keeping drums on rear for now - when do you need a booster?? When do you need a proportioning valve?? If the consensus is that what I have will NOT get the job done then.... does anyone have a MC that would be a bolt on for my front disc/rear drum application?? Thanks - I'm going to take pictures to show off my axle tonight.

Your gonna want a 76 and later brake master. WOuld be good to find the associated booster. Don't worry about propotioning valve for now as you do not have rear disc brakes. I'm not exactly sure but you may be able to use a master and booster out of a mini truck. Post some pics of what you have now william. We will get you through it.

Might want to post a pic of your brake master and show us what your firewall looks like. If it is a 71' firewall it should have a vacuum booster and dual master. What was your build date? was it before 07/70? If it is, then you do not have a booster, and will most likely want to purchase this.https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=171649

Good luck,

I went with a 75 non boosted corvette MC. I purchased an adapter from Degnol here on the board. If you sweet talk him he'll either make one for ya or atleast give ya the layout of how he made his. Works like a champ and I didn't use a proportioning valve....but some folks have to use one.

good luck....and go with rear disks
