Hi,

Does a Tcase of LJ73 can be matted on a HJ60 ?
Does a Tcase of KZJ73 can be matted on a HJ60 ?

Thanks,

Arnaud

Hi everybody!

Well, actualy Arnaud started that thread to see if we can fit one of his T cases onto my HJ61 It's a JT1WOHJ6100950303 With H55F gearbox, KO55 rear diff, and there's two numbers i don't know about! /147/ and FB11 i suspect the FB 11 might be the T case, no? By the way, is it possible to take the T case out without taking the gearbox out, i mean, not even untightening the bolts of the gearbox? Just thoses of the T case!

Thanks a lot and best regards.

Max.

it is a 2 piece case and you can remove the back half to get to the contents but to remove the entire case then of course you will need to remove some bolts from the tranny (5 to be exact)
as for interchangeability, sorry can not answer that question...

The line after the transmission and axle code is usually color code and trim code (usually interior and exterior appearance items i.e. bling-bling).

The transmission can be left attached to the engine while the transfer is removed, but the transfer has to be disassembled to remove it.

I'd guess the transfers can fit but I've never laid hands on an LJ or KZJ transfer :)

Thanks a lot Dave.

Yeah, i've discovered that FB11 is the trim and 147 the paint color code! The Tcase is dissasembled, you can see a pic in the 60/62 section, in the Tcase thread! The gears or the high speed are munched through!

Thanks a lot again, and best regards.

doesnt the LJ use similar t-case to a toyota mini truck? I don't think its the same as a 60-2

nope, not the same as a mini, the same as a cruiser, off set rear output and 2 piece gear to gear..

When you pull the front plate of the transfer you'll disrupt the gasket seal of the 5th gear extension. Plan on replacing that gasket as well or you may likely have leaks there. I did the first time I did the seal repair.

actually you do not need to pull the front half to replace the seal...
;^)

True, but this guy is looking to swap cases so he's got no choice unless the cases are identical!

Max,

You can just transfer the internals without actually changing cases, provided that the idler shaft is the same size. The early (pre 84?) input gears are not interchangeable between cases due to a different input gear seal, so look at the input gears first. Try not to mix and match gears, one set out of one transfer case should be kept together.

Hi everybody!

Well, i've taken the back and gears of teh Tcase out, it's all munched http://www.luthierguitares.com/landcruiser/btransfert.jpg But i think, since it's an electric type, i'll have to keep the casing, when i change the gears! I haven't taken the front plate out, since both input shaft and front output shaft's bearings seem solid! About Arnaud's Tcase, i don't know if it's a 34 or 38mm iddler's axle yet!

Best regards.

Max.

well, when you do something you do it well. what caused the teeth to chip off? a bolt floating around or a bearing gone bad?

Hi Crushers,!

Well, iddler bearing axle realy worn (missing something like 20/25 tenth of a millimeter on each of the bearing races!) as well as the bearings, and rear output shaft bearings real tired! I think that's the cause, as well, as tough handling!

Best regards.

Max.

Afternoon Max,
i have to admit i can't remember seening this kind of chipage in any 2 piece t/case i have taken apart. i have seen the gear "melted" from running out of gear oil but not teeth missing, although i have taken the old one piece t/cases apart and have found gears snaped in half...
interesting.
cheers
Wayne

when my idler bearings were failing and the gear oil was pumping into the trans my gears looked very similar, chipped teeth and all. Mine was with a 76 one piece case though :(.
