was discussing this with my father in law, and I was telling him how I have seen alot of rigs with nice shiny t-cases etc. Was wondering if anyone has painted these similar parts, or just polished them as he suggested.

I painted mine. Wanted to powdercoat but was afraid heating to 400+ might distort the case. Others have since told me that it would have been ok. But its done now and paint is going to have to do (and that one old bolt has been replaced with new!).

How bout the other schtuff like the thermo housing, manifold, etc.?(I should know this:confused:)

I just left mine as is. I didn't see why paint would be important on a part like that.

There is some truth to that statement. However, looking at that pic of the x-fer case tells me that the owner takes very good care of his rig. That said, after a year of regular use, the case will look like the rest of ours. . .

Um, yeah - that qualifies you as a perfectionist. ;) Which paint did you use?

That would be me! Think the tcase is bad - you should see the engine! I'm trying to do a super nice, every detail addressed resto on my 1980. The bad thing about perfectionists is they often never finish anything. I'm trying real hard to finish this project though.

The paint is just Duplicolor auto rattlecan - cast aluminum IIRC. I bead blasted the case before priming so I got good adhesion.

Even though I'm powder coating a lot of stuff - I went with Duplicolor high temp engine paint (cast aluminum) on the thermo housing and intake manifold. I wasn't having any success finding a powder color that I liked for these plus something was nagging me about putting powder on parts that would regularly be at high temps. I know hi-temp powders are available but I just went with paint.

what about ceramic coating the intake manifold. I had my header ceramic coated and it looks great.

I painted my turbo cross over pipes and exhaust manifold on the 2H and exhaust manifold on my 3F with Hi Temp ''Cast Iron" from a spray can and it has held up ok for well over 12 months.
