1999 UZJ100.

Do I really need a 100? It's a bundle of $ (for me), is it really worth spending that kind of $ for a vehicle when I don't really need it? I don't really need my 80 or 40 either, but...

Tell us about the vehicle? Price? mileage? where it lived its life so far? Clean carfax? condition?

PS- everyone needs a 100 series :) most just don't know it.

$20k, ~77k, clean carfax 2 owners, first was a corporate lease :( , locked, rear AC, dark tan color, AZ registered it's whole life, condition looks good, I've crawled underneath it, but they took it in for cleaning & service before-hand so of course it looked good without any oil marks, etc. Drove as 100s do, locked, 4WD felt just like my 80. Tires need to go, but no big deal as I have a white-trash pile of decent ones on the side of the house, and it gives me a couple $100 to bargain with.

I did note green not red coolant, and crappy brand new oil. ATF smelled nice and clean. Wife liked it. Interior a touch beaten up, but not too bad.

Tomorrow I'll go do the super-thorough check for everything, look in the crannies, etc.

you want a 100 but what you really need is LX

99's kick butt. I will trade up in 2011 when I can get a 2006.

I think it's yours now, kind of like "You break it, you buy it". Now that she's called dibbs on it, it is yours, like it or not! :D

BTW, let us know what it tasted like.

Also, 2000 and later got VSC and TRAC. Should you avoid a '99 because of that? No way. You should be aware of VSC and TRAC though that 2000+ has. If the 99 is a fair deal go for it. Make sure that the vehicle has rear AC too being in AZ. Standard on LX's but not standard on LC's until 2000 I believe.

Also, be aware you'll have a big service at 90k to pick up the tab for. Plenty of threads on the 90k service to read up on.

but if you can afford it and don't need the money for something else; why not get it?

The 100 ?

Lets see..

Its big, obnoxious and (can be) ugly...Its a gross display of the U.S.A.` s desire for over-abundance...Its a gas hog and weighs more than MOST vehicles on the road....

ONE WORD... PERFECT !!

Sounds like a good deal to me but I just paid $23K for a 99 AZ vehicle with 58K on it with a clean carfax, right color for me Beige/silver rear locker and rear air. Figured I had 32K miles until the 90K service so I did not mine paying a little more, plus it had almost new tires. Well after I bought it I realized that the 90K service is also every 6 years and it was 6 years old, plus it needed the serpentine belt replace because of cracks and so I figured it needed new hoses and antifreeze and all new fluids, your starting to get the picture :) plus after I bought it I noticed that the tires were 265/70/16's not 275/70/16's so I had to replace the tires. Long story longer I will end up with about $25,400 in a 1999 with 58K miles on it. Fine with me :) I guess the point is depending how anal you are you need to figure in the additional costs to get it where you feel good about it. I would list all of the stuff you need to do, say $1800 for what I listed and another $600 for tires and use that as a bargaining chip.

Once you go 100... you'll never go back. Slow evolution... Had a '75 Celica ST, 81 Celica GT, 93 Xtra Cab that I had for 10 years. Finally the brand new 2002 UZJ100, then I got a 81 FJ 60 with 207K. It's an addiction... Just go with it...

heated leather seats

Umm. need I say more. Ok I will. V8 is fast. Gets about same gas milage as 6. Ifs is smoother on and off road. Sure if you want to run 40" tires, stick with a 40 or 60. But 33"s are pretty much stock size on a 100. People are against newer than 99's bacause they don't have a rear locker. I tend to agree, so I have a 98 (also has rear locker) I always think I'll miss the convertable feel of the 40 but with the full cage I'm mostly looking at black metal tubes anyway. Besides, If I drive around with all the windows down and the sun roof open, I quickly close them all to stop the noise. The stereo is sweet and cranks stock, has both cd and tapes. There are more cigarette lighters than you know what to do with. (cell phone, gps, power inverter) And still one to spare for filling the air matress. Rear seats recline stock and provides room for car seats( I got kids) Most importantly I don't have to fix it weekly. I just get in and drive. Test drive one you will be sold. Sure 80 series are nice but not as nice....

GET ONE! It's a decision you won't regret! Had mine going on 3 years now and LOVE it. I've tried parting with it twice and can't go through with it. For a daily driver you can't beat it (save the gas mileage). For off road, you can't beat it. It truly is a remarkable machine. I have over 135K miles on my 99 and it runs like new. Basic maintanence is all it takes. I've had to replace only the typical items. It is a dream to drive and since I've put on my 305's I find myself making opportunities just to look at it.

When you do get one, beef up your tires and loose the running boards - it becomes a whole new animal.

As far as the price on that one, look around. They're out there on the cheap. You may be able to find one without beat up seats and with possibly less milage for a little less money. Try ebay, I've seen some good deals on there.

But don't pass up a 100!

It depends on who is with you... I just left Ahwatukee and my wife used the heated seats constantly from Nov to March... However, I agree, who needs heated seats in PHX?
