Tried to get into the back of my truck tonight, but the tailgate switch isn't working. Climbed inside to open it from there like I would on the LX470, but there is no inside handle. Just the electronic button from the outside.
Actually now that I think about it, it was giving me trouble a couple of times on the weekend. I could here the switch activate, but it would only release the first catch on the door, but wouldn't totally open.
Any ideas on how to fix this? There must be a way to open it from the inside.

Try closing all the doors, locking the vehicle with the remote, then try opening the tailgate with the remote in your pocket - should open right up.

I have found the tailgate would only half release if the driver's door is open - strange.

Had the same fault a while back - intermittent fault before total failure . Turns out I had a bad earth in the touch switch that was quickly remedied by switch replacement.

To open the door manually you will need to pop the small plastic cover panel in the trim (centre of the door) and manually flick a small lever switch - use a screw driver - you may need to remove a small plastic cap on the lock mechanism too.

Good luck

That must be it, no matter what I try for locking or unlocking and trying the handle works.
So you replaced just the exterior handle including the switch? How did you determine it was a bad earth connection?

Removed the switch and tested it. Very easy to remove from back of door (once open) and very easy process to test. Just need to drop a loop over two contact points to complete a circuit. Send me your email addtess by PM and I'll send you some pdfs of the service manual method.

It was the switch. 100$ part and 2 minutes to replace.
At least it was an easy fix.
Thanks for your help Billfish
