As the title describes, has anyone successfully done it on a 100 series? Looking to improve the backdated tech on our tailgates.

On a 200 series:

Is it possible to retrofit this on a 100? Good upgrade/enhancement for owners like me who has kids that keeps on slamming the tailgate, unaware or not just minimizing the chance of unwanted accidents.

Looks like it might be possible. Would need to drill a hole to mount the damper and swap hinges. The bolt patterns look compatible.

The foreseeable challenge I can see is that on the 200 series, they put the hinge on the driver side.

This is the actual picture of the tailgate hinge of my LX470:

There is a wiring loom and a black metal cover on the drive side tailgate hinge that may interfere. But on the passenger side, that one is clear of any obstructions.

I like what you are thinking. I just went out to look at my LC100 and I think the hinge point on the 200 series is in a different location than the one on the 100 series. I might try to find a 200 series owner around me so I can get a closer look/measure theirs.

Thanks for this. The LX570 and the 100 series hinge look a bit different (face value only). What I would like to see is the schematic diagram hole distance measurements for both to see if using the 570s hinge will actually line up 100s.

I might take the plunge. Looks like you can get the set above on eBay for $125 shipped from Japan.

Looking at my tailgate hinge, there’s already a hole about where the damper would bolt to the tailgate that allows the wire spring to pass through.

On the 200 series, their tailgate inner shell has a welded nut already provisioned for the rotating damper, all they need to do is drill a hole. But for our 100, I haven’t physically checked it yet to verify if it has a welded nut. If not, I think a locking nut/washer can work.

Funny you posted this. I find the a thread on the 200 forum about this would be nice to have that soft open feature

This is actually one of the first mods I wanted to do since owning it 3 yrs ago. Just stoked with the idea that now its within reach lol

Same, before owning this tank I searched and find that post on the 200 forum.

That captive nut I don't see an issue with either reach underneath to thread the nut or install a nutsert

Now that nutsert is a good suggestion, thanks.

I have a 100 and a 200 in my driveway. Need pictures or measurements of anything?
Yes if you can just compare the passenger side hinges of both and see if they have the some mounting holes, length of folded or not or anything that can confirm if they are the same or not. Obrigado senhor.

Bolt patterns are the same!

Two points were fabrication will be required:
1. The "horn" section that attaches from body-hinge are not the same length and thus are not interchangeable.
2. The flat area on the LX570 / 200 series tailgate is not present on the LX470 / 100 series tailgate.

Thanks for the comparison. I now see where the possible issue will be. The mounting part of the damper to the tailgate on your 2018 is flat, and the one on your 2000 has a step-up like surface.

How about eye to eye measurement of the bolt of the damper to the right bolt of the hinge?
