Did you end up doing anything for a slow close tailgate?
 
There was someone on Mud recently who installed a tailgate assist damper on their lower tailgate. I meant to bookmark the thread, but then I forgot to. Does anyone remember seeing this and have a link handy? I cannot seem to find it.
 
Anyone that purchased the damper earlier in the thread successfully made this work?
 
Just found this thread looking at the slow open lower tail gate. Did anyone have any sort of progress or new discoveries?

I’ve seen retrofit kits for pickup tailgates where the use a gas strut to slow the opening of the tailgate. But sure if there’s room on our tailgate to add a gas strut to the side of it
 
So, I think I found a solution to this. I'm an independent mechanical engineer, and I am currently consulting for a company that makes off-road gear. I just finished designing a tailgate storage system for a 100 series, and I was able to maintain the factory lift assist force. I am currently in the process of getting this company signed up to be a vendor, so we can post the details. But I can say that all who have seen it have been very interested. I think we have a winner.

Thread 'Possible to soften/dampen the lower tailgate when opening?'

My brother has a 100 series, and a few months ago we installed a Huracan Fabrication tailgate storage system. It's great, and it gets a lot of use. We were camping this past weekend and I noticed the tailgate really comes down with a lot of force if anything heavy has been loaded in. Even with just some tow straps and some other random (not particularly heavy) gear it comes down with a lot of force. We both have small kids and I'd like to find some way to dampen it when opening, to prevent injury to kids.

Maybe something like this:
Soft open lower tailgate for LC -...
 
Whoever makes this im a buyer.
