Sounded like a relatively simple job, right? Both tail lights are burnt out in the rear fender lights on my 2000 LX470. I took out the two screws holding the back of the light into the fender (accessible with the tail gate down), and the rear of the light is now free, but something is holding it at the front. I cannot move the light out far enough to see what is holding it.

Does anyone know if it is necessary to remove the plastic trim panel inside the rear of the truck? This seems like a pretty big ordeal, as it is one piece from the tailgate all the way to the back of the rear doors??? Or is there an easier way to remove the tail lights without breaking them. I spent the $200 on the factory service manual, but of course, it shows nothing on how the lights are installed, or how to remove them.

Any suggestions gratefully accepted...

Seems like a lot of tail lights are burning out this holiday season. Check out the earlier thread from madams557.

once the screws are off, its held in with a push pin kinda deal, it just needs to pop loose, so just pull or push(I forget) and it will pop off. the fronts are the same way,

Those are 2 different sets of tail lights- one in the tailgate and the other on the side panels. Once you remove the screws, the light assembly can be gently pried away fron the body until it pops.

You're right about the factory manual- it could use some improvement.

It's the "pop" I'm worried about... ;) I have visions of it costing hundreds of dollars to "unpop". Which direction should you persuade the light - toward the back of the truck, or outboard, toward the left or right?

If I remember right it doesn't swing out like you might expect it to? Try straight back... actually replacing my turn signal tomorrow so if you still have no luck I will let you know.

rear fog lamp

Sorry for the thread-jack, but really quick, once those housings are off, does anyone see a receptacle for a rear fog lamp? I'm assuming there's a blank in there somewhere (probably on US driver side) as they are required in many countries, and if so, I'd like to wire something up, since the fog is very bad around here.

Thanks,

I kinda doubt it, the 80's don't(I recall)

Yeah, I know on the 80 there was a separate lamp that mounted to the tailgate for those countries that required them, but I was just thinking, since the 100 housings have twice as many "sections" (body and tailgate), that Toyota might have thought ahead and designed in a space, without having to add soemthing like on the 80 that looks like an afterthought. I don't seem to remember seeing any pictures of foreign 100s with separate rear foglamp housings, so maybe there is something built-in? Oh well, if not, there's certainly plenty of space to add my own, I guess...
