I got my Tacoma from a guy that tried to SAS it but did a piss poor job and just F@#KED it up.

I have a complete FJ80 front axle that I'd like to put under it. I have everything including the radius arms, coil springs, panhard, etc.

I want this truck to be a comfortable Daily Driver first then a mild wheeler. I'm looking at running 33" max. I already have a beater on 4D's I don't need another one.

I know some of you might be saying why did you get this truck if you want a nice DD. You should have gotten a stock Tacoma. Well at the time I had a Tundra for a DD but sold it so I could be out of debt plus I got the truck for practically nothing.

My plan is to use everything on the FJ80 axle and just adapt it to the Tacoma frame. I figured that would be the cheapest, fastest way to get the truck back on the road.

From my quick measurements I can weld link brackets on the inside of the frame, a panhard bracket and some coil spring mounts.

Does anyone see any problems in doing this?

My plan is to use brackets from Ballistic Fab.

What are you gonna do about the front driveshaft being on the wrong side?

Dual gear driven cases using Marlin adapters.

Yotaman, I was just reading your post about FJ60 axles last night on YotaTec. I have been thinking and reading about doing a SAC on my Tacoma someday also. I also found this thread on Marlincrawler about FJ80 axles Link. I'm always interested in keeping things all Toyota also. Sounds like there are steering issues with the knuckle design when using a FJ80 axle. I will most likely use a FJ60 axle since I already have one. Tom

If you link the FJ80 axle there's really no problem with steering. You just use the stock steering.

What year FJ80 axle are you using? How wide mws - mws? Are you going to use the High Pinion E locker?

It's a 97. I think the FJ80 fronts are 63.5" WMS to WMS. I'll measure it and post my measurements later. Yeah I'm going to use the HP E-Locker.

The only concern I can come up with is to make sure your caster isn't out of wack with mounting the frame mounts inside the frame I assume higher than the bottom of the frame. May not be a concern, might be corrected with new bushings

Thanks,

I was looking at that today and I think I'll figure out a way get it them mounted on the bottom.

Are the FJ80 mounts on the bottom of the frame?

Anyone know what the stock caster is on the FJ80 fronts?

Yes, they are.

As for caster, I don't recall off the top of my head, but I know it's in the 80 section. Should be pretty easy to find with a bit of searching.
Thanks. From my searching it looks like between 0 and 2.

That sounds about right. I would honestly shoot for 2-6 if at all possible. The 80's run less caster because they are all wheel drive and that adds another dynamic to the equation. If you're gonna be running part time, a little caster never hurt anyone.

Yeah I was thinking around 4 or 5.

I have yard full of Toyota Axles/Parts. I have 2 of these axles. I also have a 62 front. I haven't decided on what to use. I've been thinking about using the 62 front and doing a Spring Under to keep the truck low.

See what you can find on shipping.

Pick a damn axle already! Hurry up with that damn hybrid so I figure out what I want to do.
