From Pirate's Toyota truck section FAQ

Axle info - Toyota

Stock Toyota front axle measurements for comparison:
55.5" wide, 29" spring perch centers, '79-85 Toyota trucks and 4runners
63.5" wide, (set up for coil springs) 90-97 FJ80 and FZJ80 Landcruisers
'86-95 IFS front end is about 58.5" wide
'93-98 T100 IFS front end is about 65" wide

Toyota Rear Axle Widths:
55" wide, '79-85 4wd trucks/4runners - 6 Lug
58" wide, '86-95 4wd trucks/4runners - 6 Lug
56" wide, '79-95 2wd Trucks - 5 Lug
60.75" wide, '95.5-up Tacomas/4runners
66.75" wide, '93-98 T100 trucks

Dana 44 from Blazer/K series is about 66" wide on my T-100 as well

Those numbers are probably correct unless you are talking about the new 4Runner, which has a different setup than the previous (Tacoma-ish) version (atleast I think it's different).

what about internals? a 4 runner or tacoma are not that hard to find these days in junk yards and most have an electric rear locker is that adaptable?

mike

There are two center setions for the older axles. One for the 4 cyl and one for the 6. I don't know about the newer Taco and Taco based 4skinners. The 6 cylinder centers are the same size as the 80 series fronts, but without the high pinion.

The electric lockers were an uncommon option. AFAIK

Rear 80 diffs were larger than the smaller trucks. They will not swap.

There are tons of elocker equipped Tacoma axles floating around. They often sell for around $650 complete. They can be wired or a manual cable can be used. The elocker option was very popular on the TRD equipped trucks and are even found on many Pre-Runner 4x2 Tacomas. The elocker was an option on some of the 3rd generation 4 runners but was discontinued (I think) in 2000.

With that being said, you would not want a Taco rear on your 80. It would be a great swap on an earlier mini or 4 runner though.

Not sure of the dimensions of the Tundra/Sequoia rear axle but I think it is similar to the T100.

so from what I am reading the 80 has no axle parts in comon with any other toyota?
