A friend has an '04 taco (SR5 but not TRD) that he smashed up the front bumper on recently. He is considering an arb for replacement. Are there any special considerations for putting it on? Is it just a bolt on? Special tool requirements? Any reason to not put it on with a stock suspension? I am going to help him put it on if he decides to go with one, just want to know if there is anything I need to do to prepare.

TIA for any insights.

The bull bars are a tight fit, and if his frame is bent from banging up the bumper he may need to go to a frame shop and have it straitened back to spec. Otherwise bolt on.

Thanks for the reply. I don't think there is any frame damage as he basically just mangled the bumper by hitting a tree at about 3 MPH. Slid off an icy road. No damage to anything but the bumper...

The stock suspension is totally inadequate in every way to support that bumper. In the very least, you will need to get the Old Man Emu 881 (med) or 882 (heavy) springs and new shocks would also be in order. The 881 springs with the bumper should sit around stock height after the springs settle. The 882's would give a little lift. Either way, the rear sits higher anyways so it should look ok.

There are also people using the Tundra 2wd coils which are heavier than the Taco ones. Research that at Yotatech as I don't have any personal experience with this.

I would also upgrade the rear shocks to match the fronts, or else it may handle funny.

As far as installation goes, it should be very simple for the two of you.

Almost forgot, this guy here can hook you up with the parts you need:

I appreciate the info. I will let him know that the springs and shocks would also be needed. I figured that might be the case...

Old thread but figured easier then starting a new thread for what seems to be very limited info on ARB bull bar.

I just picked up a used bull bar for my 99 4Runner. The mods required to install the Tacoma bull bar look pretty straight forward. What I'm having a problem finding is replacement turn signals for the bull bar. The bull bars are still being sold new but replacements are not from what I can tell. ARB's US site lists rubber pads as standard but not seeing a way to buy either the pads or the turn signals. Also does anyone know if a skid plate from the bull to the factory skid was available. I picked up a used 4th gen 4Runner bull bar and it did have the skid plate.

Thanks

Good advice regarding beefing up the suspension. I put in the OME Heavy due to the ARB bumper and Warn M8000 winch and sliders. The truck height increased 2" which is just perfect and looks and rides fantastic, a slight rake/rise in the back. The Bumper was a simple install compared to my 200! Really gives the truck a nice look and fantastic protection.

Mk2 Jetta/golf small bumper turn signals are what fit. And there's tons of options from clear, smoke, amber, and led ones. I put smoked in mine with nice bright amber 1156 LEDs.

Thank you very much. I now have something to work with. I didn't see a amber in the small bumper in your link. Not sure how important having amber is. Amber LED bulbs would take care if that. I found some black and clear lights on Amazon cheaper. I have a FJ62 with a bull bar and amber lights. Would think they are the same size. Just find it hard to understand why ARB is supporting their product. I see bull bars still available for the 1st gen Tacoma/3rd gen 4Runner.

Thank you again, before installing the bumper I want to resolve the front turn signals. Guess I'm lucky mine is only s SR5 and don't have daylight running lights or fog lights to deal with.
