Guys, quick question: When I was messing with my driveshafts this past weekend I was shifting the T-case into neutral while the transmission was in Park. I guess I'd never done that before, on the trail when shifting to low I've always done it while in neutral. Anyway, if I turned the truck on when the T-case is in neutral and the Tranny is in park, the red A/T P light comes on on the dash. I'd never seen that before, so obviously it was a surprise. But if the transmission is in neutral, that light doesn't come on regardless of T-case position. Is that how it is on your trucks as well?

I could sit there idling in Park, then every time I'd shift the T-Case out of H or L the red A/T P light would come on. But if I'm in neutral, then that light doesn't come on at all when I shift the T-case. Anyone else experienced this?

not so quick response, Mine is the same; if the transmission is in park and T-case in neutral the A/TP light comes on, it stays off in all other positions

My best guess is the light is to warn you that park is not going to stop the vehicle wile the T-case is in neutral?

Yeah, as Raven said that's normal. If you have the tranny in Neutral then you aren't expecting it to hold, so they don't feel they need to warn you. But if you put the tranny in Park, they figure you're expecting it to hold and then if you move the t/c lever they figure you want to know. I was very surprised by it too when I first saw it. It makes sense and actually with a vehicle like our's it's kinda a liability. If for example you have it in Park, a few kids playing in there, if they bump the t/c lever to neutral, the vehicle is off and rolling unless you have the e-brake on, which is why they always tell you to use that, even though I never do. I thought about this not long ago, how being in Park means nothing in a vehicle like our's when you can just bump the t/c into neutral and it defeats all that.

Bought a 91 a few months back and the darn thing is almost impossible to shift into 4x.
What should I look at? Maybe just stickey linkage?
Thanks,
Russ in California

I don't know about a 91, but my 93 has t-case shifting instructions over the flip down drivers visor.
