This has happened about 4-5 times intermittently past two months, when facing uphill, shifted to park or reverse then back to drive, it shifts into drive, begin to accelerate but stays there revs up and does not seem to go into gear and a traction? light blinks. Roll back slightly then give gas and goes into gear. Transmission was serviced before I bought it and plan to fluid change t case with aimsoil. Hopefully fluid change helps. Curious if anyone experienced same issue

I've triend Google searching the issue no luck. Its as if on a up hill, shift into drive and wait for gears to engage, unless roll or try shifting again. Revs up, hear a rattle then work it and then engages into gear.

Just duplicated the issue. What is consistent is that it happens when facing up hill, shifting from drive to reverse or neutral then when back to drive, selector shifts to drive fine, hit gas peddle traction light flashes and feel gas peddle light shutter like gear teeth hitting not egaging, either roll it or try shifting again into drive then gears engage. Transmission had been serviced before purchase. My theory is that trans maybe underfilled plus facing up hill, causing torque converter to starve and not engage in gear. Really hope its its something simple like a fluid issue.

I have never heard of this issue. I believe a couple people have had issues with their shifter but I don't know what the symptoms were. I think you are on the right track, start simple and go from there. Be sure to loosen the fill plug before opening the drain.

The shifter seems fine as it doesn't get stuck. Yeah it's driving me crazy, can't find a similar issue any where online.

GX470 has a anti-rollback feature. It will stop the vehicle from rolling backwards on a hill after releasing the brakes while in gear. This will cause the engine to rev slightly, the traction control will beep and you will have a brief period to step on the gas before it stops controlling and rolls backwards.

This is NORMAL operation and built in as a safety feature.

I believe the correct term for it is "Hill-start Assist"

Yep, the hill start assist. My house is on an insanely steep hill and this catches me off guard occasionally when I back out of my driveway and head up the hill instead of my normal route down. Much like the hill descent control, the operation could certainly stand to be a bit smoother.
